Puerto Varas, settled mostly by Germans in the mid-19th century, is popular for its German traditions, fresh and local seafood, beautiful natural environment, and exquisite casinos and hotels. While in Puerto Varas, Yampu travelers will explore the Lake District by boat, crossing on the All Saints Lake to Peulla, on the border with Argentina. During this crossing you will enjoy beautiful views of the snow-capped volcanoes and waterfalls that surround you. We will also participate in a full-day excursion to Ancud in the island of Chiloe. Prior to visiting the lake, we will spend some time in Santiago.

Torres del Paine National Park is home to beautiful mountains, large glaciers, and rich lakes and rivers; this is a very popular destination for Yampu travelers. Located in the southern extreme of the Patagonia is the largest ice field in the world, Glacier Grey. This enormous glacier continuously melts slowly into Lago Grey, and provides spectacular crashing ice and colorful blue and green icebergs. During this memorable excursion you will also visit Santiago, Chile’s dynamic capital, prior to visiting the lake.

The trails following the prominent mountains of Torres del Paine National Park are world-class trekking routes. During this excursion, relish in breathtaking views of your natural surroundings consisting of glaciers, rivers, lakes, forests, and abundant wildlife. This trip offers constantly changing landscapes and experiences; at one moment view Andean condors, the largest flying land bird in the Western Hemisphere, circling overhead and guanacos, a native animal that is cousin to the llamas, alpacas and vicuńas grazing in the valleys. During this unique trip we will visit the Lake District that crosses both Argentina and Chile. Here we will appreciate a lake crossing with spectacular views of the snow-capped Andes Mountains. We will also take a full-day excursion to Ancud, a city of 40,000 on the island of Chiloe, and spend two nights in Bariloche, Argentina. Bariloche, in many ways, resembles European alpine resorts due to its impressive natural surroundings. Bariloche is famous for skiing, but also great for sight-seeing, water sports, hiking, and climbing. Yampu travelers will also spend two days in Santiago.

The towering granite “cuernos”, or horns as they are called in Torres del Paine National Park, are perhaps the most recognized image of Chile. These enormous glaciers mark the northern boundary of the park. Puerto Varas, also known as the City of the Roses, is a sleepy town located in the heart of Chile’s Lake District. Here you will surround yourself in the beautiful countryside consisting of large lakes and high mountains. Yampu travelers will also spend two days exploring the fascinating and modern city of Santiago, one of South America’s most sophisticated metropolitan regions.

The Stella and the Via are the new expedition cruise ships of Patagonia Cruises that travel the waters surrounding Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. The deluxe passenger ships offer safety and comfort. Each of the outside cabins boast spectacular views of the magnificent glaciers, forests, and snow-capped mountains as we cross from Chile to Argentina. Prior to the cruise we will visit Torres del Paine National Park, declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978.
