Along the Tambopata River, only 30 minutes from Cuzco lies one of the most pristine and unspoiled areas in the Amazon Jungle, the Tambopata Reserve. The Reserve is home to more species of animals than any other place on earth. Here, you can see six-foot river otters capable of beating jaguars in a fight, and boat down uncharted rivers.

Reserva Amazonica, the most luxurious and romantic lodge in the Peruvian Amazon, was built in 1975 by Peru’s eco-pioneers, José and Denise Koechlin. Visitors have seen up to 260 macaws there at one time, making it one of the top five of the world’s 100 known licks. Travelers view the spectacle from a roomy blind floating only 100 ft away.

The most diverse region in the entire Amazon is arguably the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo area. This magnificent reserve covers a large and ecologically diverse region of the western Amazon rainforest. Biologists often refer to this area as the "green paradise" of the Amazon Forest. Thought to be a zone that remained forested during the last ice age, the area is home to many species found nowhere else in the world.
