Route of the Sun
The Route of the Sun is a strip of sun and sand on the Ecuadorian coast running north of Salinas. The best way to reach the Route of the Sun is through the up and coming and largest city of Ecuador, Guayaquil. Machalilla National Park feartures ”Los Frailes” beach, said to be the best beach in Ecuador as well as archaeological sites dating back to 3000 B.C. Just off the coast on Isla de la Plata you will find pelicans, boobies and frigates as well as the chance to spot whales and dolphins.

The Ruta del Sol will take you along the sunny, sandy coast of Ecuador from Guayaquil to Puerto López. We stop at Cerro Blanco Reserve, a patch of dry forest that is protected between the edges of Guayaquil to Machalilla National Park. Spend a day at Machalilla National Park and visit archaeological sites dating back to 3000 B.C. as well as a boat tour to Isla de la Plata for a chance to view whales and dolphins as well as colonies of boobies and frigate birds on the island.
