Namibia is a relatively new country; having gained independence from South Africa in 1990 (South Africa took over governance from Germany after World War I). The country takes its name from the Namib Desert which stretches along the country’s entire coastline. Namibia is the second least densely populated country in the world, after Mongolia, with several different tribes making up its demographics. A very dry land, Namibia’s territory includes the Namib Desert, Coastal Desert and part of the Kalahari Desert. Namibia, the only country in the world to specifically address environmental protection in its constitution, is a very popular eco-tourism attraction because of its distinct landscapes and wildlife conservancies.
