NICARAGUA

Come visit the land of lakes and volcanoes

Nicaragua, the largest—but least densely populated—country of Central America, is known as the land of lakes and volcanoes. A large portion of Nicaragua is designated as protected areas such as national parks, nature reserves and biological reserves. It is the home to Granada (founded in 1524) and León, two of the oldest cities in Central and South America. Lake Nicaragua is the largest freshwater lake in Central America and is home to the world’s only freshwater sharks.

Visit Granada and León, and other beautiful places in the Pacific lowlands, central highlands and Atlantic lowlands. This is a popular place for birdwatchers; some of the birds found in Nicaragua include quetzals, goldfinches, hummingbirds, jays and toucans.
