Rio, with its beautiful beaches and Carnival—known worldwide for the elaborate parades staged by the city’s major samba schools—is one of Brazil's major tourist attractions. The country is not lacking in cultural heritage elsewhere, such as Ouro Preto, Brasilia and Salvador da Bahia. Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, was built from scratch in just four years (opening in 1960), and is noted for its futuristic architecture.
