Puerto Varas, settled mostly by Germans in the mid-19th century, is well-known for its German traditions, seafood, natural environment, casino and hotels. It is the departure point for visitors drawn to its dramatic geography. While in Puerto Varas, Yampu travelers will explore the Lake District by taking a boat crossing on the All Saints Lake to Peulla on the border with Argentina, with beautiful views of the snow-capped volcanoes and waterfalls. We will also take a full-day excursion to Ancud in the island of Chiloe. Prior to visiting the lake, we will spend some time in Santiago.

The deep-flowing waters of the Iguazu River plunge over 275 falls, encompassing almost two miles. Iguazu Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, is taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide. The border with Brazil goes through the Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) where the falling water gives the illusion of magic rainbows. Yampu travelers will take a boat ride to see Devil’s Throat up close (don’t forget your raincoat!), and walk through the nearby trails. They are abundant with flora and fauna. In Buenos Aires, we will visit a typical estancia and attend a tango show.
