When to Visit Peru
The ideal time of year to visit Peru and Machu Picchu is during the summer months in the Northern Hemisphere, which is actually the winter in Peru. From April through October the country sees very little rain with brilliant blue skies covering the highlands. The rainy season falls from December to March in the highlands of Peru, although during this time it rarely rains for more than a few hours at a time. In contrast, in the Peruvian Amazon, the rain falls frequently and the temperature is generally hot and humid. The best time to visit this rich ecosystem is during the driest months that fall from June to September.
