Canaima National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site (as of 2004), lies on the Macizo de Guayana, one of the oldest geological formations in the world. The park covers about 80,000 square kilometers, and its landscape is far from uniform. The tributaries of the Caroní River cut across its grounds, and the Carrao River (one of the tributaries) forms the Canaima lagoon. (The lagoon’s color changes—as strata of mountains change, in distinct layers—from orange and deep red to a dark blue-black on account of plant decomposition.)

“Tepuys,” or table-shaped mountains, abounding with flora (over five hundred orchid species and a number of bromeliads) also define the park’s grounds, but what it’s known for–above all–is the world’s tallest, single waterfall (3,212 feet): Salto Angel, or Angel Falls, named for its discoverer, Jimmie Angel, a North American pilot.

Yampu offers standard and superior accommodation in Canaima National Park. Our superior option is with Wakü, a lodge that boasts fifteen well-decorated rooms with private bathrooms, hot water, fans, and a porch (with seating and hammocks). The bar and restaurant look out on the vast gardens and the lagoon. For further details on this option and our standard option, please contact your travel consultant.
