Excursions around Santiago
Full day excursion to Vina del Mar and Valparaiso
Depart for the Central Coast traveling through the valleys of Curacavo and Casablanca. The latter is known for its recent success as a wine producing area and there is a stop to visit one of the vineyards and taste some wine. Continue to the coast and visit the beach area of Reńaca and the town of Vina del Mar, known as the Garden City for its pretty parks and flower-lined streets. Visit the casino and the coastal road. In the afternoon, continue to the picturesque port of Valparaiso built in the 16th century on 43 hills which are reached by narrow windy streets, staircases and a series of lifts (funiculars) which is now declared by UNESCO as World Heritage site because of its eclectic architecture and urban development. Visit La Sebastiana, the museum house of Pablo Neruda,. The house is situated on one of the hills overlooking the bay and contains some of the poet’s collections, specifically related to the sea. Return to Santiago.

Full-day excursion to Valle Nevado
Valle Nevado ski resort is in the mountains near Santiago at a height of 3,025 meters/ 9,982 feet above sea level. Following the River Mapocho up the valley, pass through some small mountain villages before starting to climb the mountain proper up a series of hairpin bends. The views are incredible and there is a good chance of seeing condors all year round. The quality and variety of the runs as well as the usually clement weather make this one of the best ski areas in the southern hemisphere. Skiing is available from June to August (lift pass, ski rental, etc. not included) and the rest of the year it is possible to enjoy the mountain air and wonderful views.

Full Day excursion to Isla Negra – Pablo Neruda Museum
Depart Santiago in the morning for a full day heading towards the coast. Enjoy the first stop in Pomaire, a small village where the inhabitants work the local clay to make a variety of dishes, pots and interesting sculptures among other handicrafts. Continue to Isla Negra, a small beachside community with a pretty beach backed by fragrant pine trees. This is where Pablo Neruda, Chilean Nobel Prize for Literature winner, chose to build one of his houses. The eccentric architecture houses some of his collections, including bottles, figureheads from ships, shells and various other eclectic articles. There is time for lunch locally after the visit (not included) before returning to Santiago.

Easter Island Explora allows you to choose your daily explorations. These include:
Walk to Hanga Oteo: This is a half-day, 13-km hike. You will be taken to Te Peu, the trail’s beginning, by van. Walk along a trail that borders steep cliffs and offers spectacular views. Visit natural bathing pools, cross locally owned fields and view numerous archeological sites. Arrival at Anakena Beach. Picnic on the beach and return by van to Casas Rapa Nui.
From the Te Peu Ahu to Hango Roa: This is a short, 2-hour walk. Travel to Te Peu by van. Walk along a trail that borders steep cliffs and offers spectacular views. View Motu Tautara and the astonishing Las Dos Ventanas cave. Arrive at Hanga Roa, first passing Tahai and ending at Pea. Numerous archeological sites along the way. Return by van to Casas Rapa Nui.

Ara O Te Moai, the Moai Route: This is a must-do. Lasting up to 3 hours, or more if your fascination gets the better of you, you will travel from Casas Rapa Nui to Hanga Tetenga by van. Walk along Ara O Te Moai, the trail once used to transport the Moai sculptures; view numerous overturned Moais along the way. Climb to Rano Raraku, the moai stone quarry, with views of the interior of the crater. Walk along the volcano’s edge and arrive at the natural rock pools at One Makihi. Picnic lunch. Return by van to Casas Rapa Nui.

Alturas del Poike: This route is more of a hike and lasts around 4 hours. Travel from Casas Rapa Nui to Piko Mahore by van. Walk along an upward-sloping trail that borders a steep cliff, and pass through Maunga Parehe and the Maunga Tea-Tea. View the Vai Aheva fountain. Climb to Puka Katike and then walk down to Tongariki to view 15 Moais. Return by van to Casas Rapa Nui.

Climb to Tereveka: This hike will give you great views of the island and its situation. Lasts about 2 hours. Travel from Casas Rapa Nui to Rano Aroi by van. The walk begins at Rano Aroi, then climbs from Maunga Kuma to Maunga Terevaka to appreciate spectacular views of the island from its highest point. The trail continues northeast toward Anakena along high coastal ridges that gradually descend to the beach, where you may swim. Return to Casas Rapa Nui by van.

The Tangata Manu Route: This walk takes you to one of the islands three volcanoes, 2-3 hours. Travel from Casas Rapa Nui to Vinapu by van. View Ahu Tahira. Walk along a trail that borders ascending steep cliffs, arriving at the edge of the Rano Kau crater. Spectacular views of the ocean and the interior of the volcano. Walk along the crater to Orongo. Visit the significant ceremonial site of Tangata manu (Bird Man) worship. Return by van to Casas Rapa Nui.

Te Pito O Te Henua, the Naval of the World: A half-day walk that encounters local villagers in their native environment. Travel from Casas Rapa Nui to Ana Okeke by van. Walk along a descending trail that borders the northern coast of the island. View Ana Okeke, Maunga Parehe, fishing cove “La Perousse,” local villagers, and archaeological sites along the way. Arrive at the Ovahe beach. Return by van to Casas Rapa Nui.

Walk to Te Miro Oone: 2 to 3 hours. Travel from Casas Rapa Nui to Te Miro Oone by van. Walk along a trail that offers panoramic views of the southeast side of the island. Climb along Maunga Kahurea and continue along Ara o te Moai. Numerous Moais along the trail, arrive at Hanga Te Tenga ahu. Return by van to Casas Rapa Nui.

To Te Miro Oone by bicycle: 2 to 3 hours. Travel from Casas Rapa Nui to Te Miro Oone on bicycle, along the principal route that crosses through pretty forested sections of the island. Descend toward the southern coast, with views of various motu and archeological sites, following the coastal route until reaching Tahira. Return to Casas Rapa Nui from Vinapu.
