Mérida makes a good base from which to explore the Mayan archeological sites of Uxmal and Kabah. Start your tour in Cancun and then continue to Chichen-Itza and onto Mérida. This tour also includes Tulum, the only significantly sized Mayan ruin on the Caribbean coast. Day 1

Take the flight to Cancun. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.

Day 2

In the morning make your way to the Mayan pyramids of Chichen-Itza. The site is divided into three sections. The north grouping of structures is distinctly Toltec in style. The central group appears to be from the early period. The southern group is known as "The Old Chichen." You will find a large ball court where Mayan men played a game called pok ta pok. Continue to Mérida for the night.

Day 3

Enjoy today's incredible excursion to the archaeological sites of Uxmal and Kabah. Uxmal was probably built around 700 A.D. The rich, green, fertile land provides a perfect setting for some of the most magnificent ancient pyramids, buildings and temples of the ancient Mayan world. You can sense the history here as you walk around and gaze at the stunning architecture and majestic layout of this ancient city. The Piramide del Adivino (the Oracle's Pyramid) stands majestically above other buildings, and a climb to its summit will reward you with spectacular views of the entire half-square-mile ancient city. Kabah is located south of Uxmal connecting both archaeological sites by a grand 18-kilometer-long pedestrian causeway with monumental arches at each end. Kabah is the second largest ruin of the Puuc region, after Uxmal. The most famous structure at Kabah ruins is the Palacio de las Mascaras (the Palace of the Masks), its facade decorated with hundreds of stone masks of the long-nosed rain god Chaac. It is also known as the Codz Poop, meaning "Rolled Matting." The site also has a number of other palaces, low stone buildings, and step-pyramid temples you will be able to discover and enjoy. Overnight in Merida.

Day 4

Transfer to the pretty beach area of Tulum. Tulum has some stunning Maya ruins right on the ocean front.

Day 5

Full day tour of Coba & Tulum Morning visit to the ruins of Tulum. Mounted on the edge of a cliff, this abandoned city towers above the deep turquoise of the Caribbean and a beautiful white sandy beach. Although the site dates back to earlier times, Tulum reached its peak in the Post-classic period between 1,000 and 1,600 AD. Originally called Zama or City of the Dawn, the sun rises from the sea above the city walls and for the ancient Maya, begins her dance across the sky. The city within the walls was only inhabited by the nobles, high priests and esteemed citizens such as astronomers whereas the lower classes lived in simple wood and thatch huts beyond. The buildings in the city were originally covered with brilliant paintings and carvings – stark white, deep red or vibrant blue, but only faint remnants of these now remain.
Afternoon visit to the archaeological site of Coba – which is Mayan for “Water Stirred by the Winds” – is next to a group of shallow lakes. The archaeological remains were found date back to AD 600. During our visit to this ruins, we will notice how pleasurably peaceful it is due to its isolation of the roads and nearby towns, and also due to less affluence of visitors. We can find a vast and abundant wildlife around Coba.
