Explore Cape Town, Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula to view the penguin colony before traveling the famed Garden Route to Swellendam, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Port Elizabeth. Finish with a full multi-day safari at one of several private game reserves bordering Kruger National Park.

The Garden Route was originally named after the vineyards, orchards and agricultural areas that used to sit between the Karoo Desert and the Southern South Africa coastline. Now it is more recognized for the forests, coastline, beaches, marine life & game reserves as well as the picturesque towns and villages along the way. Starting in Swellendam, gateway to the Garden Route, transfer to Plettenberg Bay. Originally christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay offers the visitor miles of sweeping, unspoiled golden beaches, a dramatic rocky peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea. It is also home to the best dolphin watching in the World according to the National Geographic and is an adventure lover’s paradise with everything from surfing to kayaking and horse riding. Finish at Port Elizabeth.

Adding to the majesty of Kruger Park safaris are the surrounding private game reserves such as Sabi Sands and Timbavati. Over the last 20 years the fences between the reserves have been removed allowing the animals to roam freely between the Kruger National Park and these private reserves. The removal of these boundaries has afforded visitors to the Kruger Park with the best Big Five safari experience South Africa has to offer.

Day 1

Overnight international flight to Cape Town.

Day 2

Upon arrival in Cape Town, airport reception and transfer in a private vehicle to your hotel. After check in enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 3

Today we will start by helping you get your bearings in Cape Town along with a knowledge of its past with a private city tour. Have your eyes and ears opened to seldom seen sights and seldom heard stories of the city’s former inhabitants; previous visitors; beautiful architectural heritage; social, cultural, religious and political history.

In the afternoon we will make our way to the Cable Car Station for a memorable trip to the top of Table Mountain. This is one of the Natural Wonders of the World and the views of the city, coastline and Cape Peninsula are truly breathtaking. Enjoy one of the many walks on top of the mountain before enjoying a well earned cocktail and watching the sun set.

Day 4

After breakfast you will be taken on a private tour of the Cape Peninsula. This is a full day tour that takes in some of Cape Town’s best scenery and attractions. You will stop at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, these beautiful gardens are home to over 6000 plant species. You will then travel to the Jackass Penguin Colony at Boulders Bay and perhaps have a swim on the beach next door.

After a stop for lunch overlooking False Bay, where you can keep an eye out for whales, you will move on to Cape Point, which is the Southwestern point of Africa and one of the most dangerous points to sail around in the World. On the way back you can look for wildlife as you travel through Cape Point National Park, before going round Chapman’s Peak Drive and back to your hotel for a sun downer!

Day 5

After breakfast we take a trip to the Winelands region just north of Cape Town. South African wine is one of the fastest growing in popularity and we will take you to some of the best wine makers in the country. You will be able to experience several tastings as well as a private cellar tour. The Winelands region is also incredibly beautiful, with the vineyards woven through spectacular mountain ranges. We will stop for lunch in Franschhoek, which is the gourmet capital of South Africa, and soak up the surroundings while enjoying some first rate cuisine. This is a fantastic day out.

Day 6

Transfer to Swellendam. This is a day at leisure where you can explore the historic town of Swellendam, take a trip to the Southern most tip of Africa at Cape Agulhus, or explore the vineyards of the Robertson region. There is a 3 hour transfer to Plettenberg Bay in the afternoon.

Day 7

After breakfast you will be taken to Knysna where you will have the chance to browse the markets of this bustling town, before being taken out for a boat cruise on the beautiful Knysna Lagoon and a chance to see the infamous Knysna Heads. We will return to Plettenberg Bay after a stop for lunch where we will take a trip on the Ocean Blue whale and dolphin excursion. Plettenberg is known for having some of the best dolphin watching in the world and it is an amazing year round experience to watch the huge pods playing in the surf and around your boat. If you are lucky you will also see the rare Orca (Killer) Whale (most frequently seen August-October).

Day 8

We start early today and transfer to Port Elizabeth (approximately 2 hours). Day at leisure in Port Elizabeth to explore the city's historical attractions, gardens and fine beaches.

Day 9

After breakfast you will be transferred to the Port Elizabeth airport for your flight to Nelspruit. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your game lodge.

Day 10

First Day on Safari: Open safari vehicles with seating for between 6 and 12 visitors head out into the wild under the expert guidance of experienced rangers and insightful trackers. Guests are able to get in close contact with Africa's most exciting wildlife species, and are presented with unparalleled photographic opportunities. Early morning game drive heads out as the sun rises and as the bush stirs to life. The ranger and tracker teams search for animals by tracking their spoor, and by listening for the tell-tale signs of activity. The bush has its own language, and it is fascinating to watch those who possess the tools to encode it.

Late afternoon game drive commences as the sun burns its way towards the horizon. The animals are now getting more active, many preparing for the great hunt after dark. After sundowners, the drive continues with the aid of powerful spotlights which reveal nocturnal species in another world. On average, approximately 6 hours of game drives per day.

Day 11

Another Safari day starting with morning game drive, followed by free time and late afternoon game drive. Each day will differ in the animals that may be near or ask your tracker to search out animals which you may have not seen yet.

Day 12

Last Safari day and last chance to see these remarkable animals in the wild. One never knows what amazing moment they will witness.

Day 13

After your morning activity and breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your connection to Cape Town and flight home or continue with the Yampu Tours add-on of your choice.

Travelers entering South Africa from WHO-designated yellow fever countries are required to present their current and valid “International Certificate of Vaccination as approved by the World Health Organization (WHO)” (commonly called a “yellow card”) or statement of medical exemption (also located on the same yellow card).
