Choroní
Just a 3.5 hour-drive from Caracas (that’s worthwhile in it of itself), Choroní is a must-see colonial town in Henri Pittier National Park, where you’ll have the chance to check out tropical coves, lie out on secluded, palm-fringed beaches, and find out more about colonial history.
Once the heart of a rich cocoa-growing region, Choroní is known for its cocoa haciendas and African heritage. The town’s African roots are particularly evident at night as its streets fill up with people dancing to the beat of tambores, or local drums.
In Choroní Yampu offers accommodation at Posada La Casa de Las Garcia, a colonial cocoa plantation. Though completely restored, the traditional features of Posada La Casa de Las Garcia—its wide white walls, tiled roofs, and large, internal patio were preserved; the flower garden in the internal attracts more than a few hummingbirds, so be sure to keep a look out….
