Iguazu Falls and Ibera Estuary
|
|
The Iguazu Falls and National Park are located 10 miles from Puerto Iguazu. The deep- flowing waters of the river fall from a height of 30 feet through 275 falls over one and a half mile. The frontier with Brazil goes through the Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) where the falling water gives the illusion of magic rainbows. The National Park is full of the exotic subtropical vegetation which surrounds the falls and has 2,000 plant species – gigantic trees, ferns, lianas, orchids; 400 bird species – parrots, colibries, toucans; jaguars and yacarés (caimans).
The Ibera Estuary, the largest wetland in Argentina, whose name comes from the Guarani “y bera,” meaning bright water, covers an area of more than 15,000 square kilometers. A unique, pristine landscape full of marshes and savannahs, it is also home to many fascinating species such as two Argentine alligators, the howler monkey, neotropical river otter, the Capybara (the world’s largest rodent) and the Marsh Deer. Situated among the Parana, Paraguay and Uruguay Rivers, the Ibera Estuary provides visitors with an experience unlike most tourist destinations.
This trip can be customized to fit your individual travel dates and any specific requests you may have. Your travel consultant will prepare a customized itinerary for you. We offer a choice of 3-, 4-, 5-star and deluxe hotels. The deluxe option comes with a falls view room at the Sheraton Iguazu and the Rincon del Socorro conservationist lodge in Ibera, with the Rincon del Socorro or Puerto Valle Hotel also included in the 5-star option.
At Iguazu, you can see many of the falls up close via a system of catwalks, which offer unmatchable views. Around the falls, there is a 6,000-hectare natural reserve. Above the falls, the river itself is suitable for canoeing, kayaking and other water sports. This area contains extensive areas of subtropical rain forest, with unique flora and fauna, hundreds of species of birds and many mammals and reptiles.
During your stay in Ibera, activities such as horseback riding, birdwatching, exploring the lagoon by boat and viewing wildlife on foot will all afford you with an inside glimpse of an intact ecosystem. Aquatic plants and grasses, including “floating islands,” dominate the marsh vegetation, while trees are relatively few.
