The eastern side of Ecuadorian Amazon is boundless because it expands toward the Amazon plains. The Manatee Amazon Explorer trip will take place at the Napo Basin where we will explore the Napo River and its tributaries. The Napo, a white water river, is about 1300km long, the first 460km are situated in Ecuador while the rest lies in Peruvian Territory. The Manatee Amazon Explorer will navigate in Ecuadorian territory through the Napo and Aguarico Rivers.

Traveling around Ecuadorian Amazon offers an unforgettable experience for anybody’s sense. This unthinkable event may occur while you walk through the forest and meet a troop of Red Howler Monkeys moving above the canopy, or when you spot a pair of brilliantly colored Scarlet Macaws darting through the treetops, or when you seek for a pair of piercing orange eyes of Black Caiman aboard a dugout canoe at night, or when you catch a glimpse of the Amazon Pink River Dolphin. These are all memories that you will carry long after leaving the Amazon.

Day 1

MONDAY: Quito - Coca - Yasuní National Park
This morning you will transfer to the airport in Quito for your flight to Coca. Upon arrival you will be greeted and transferred to the Napo River port where you will board a motorized speed boat for a two hour transfer downstream to the Manatee Amazon Explorer.

This afternoon enjoy a canoe excursion to explore the inside of the Tiputini River Yasuni National Park. At dusk, enjoy a night walk, visit to a native dwelling or canoe ride, Depending on the river level, climatic Conditions, wildlife Behavior and accessibility to the location).

Day 2

TUESDAY: Visiting the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and Yasuni National Park
Early in the morning, you will explore one of the MOST pristine rivers in the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Cocaya River. Here you will have the opportunity to observe exotic plants, colorful birds and unique wildlife in the lives in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. This black water system is home to the legendary pink river dolphins, river turtles, black caymans and the enigmatic Amazon Manatee.

In the afternoon, in the heart of the Yasuni, visit one of the major black water lakes of the upper Amazon basin, the Jatuncocha. Here you will enjoy opportunities for walking and paddling and watching the giant otters, water mammals and an amazing endangered species.

Day 3

WEDNESDAY: Culture and Swamp Forest Kichwa hike
This morning visit one of the local indigenous community centers, specifically, one of the Kichwa Culture schools. During your visit you will enjoy the opportunity to meet the local people and learn more about their culture and how they live. This afternoon is at your leisure aboard the Manatee to take advantage of some of the activities offered onboard including cooking lessons and local handicraft demonstrations.

Day 4

THURSDAY: Parrot Clay Lick or Water Museum and Limoncocha Biological Reserve
After breakfast take an unforgettable excursion to the Parrot Clay Licks, a great place to see a lot of bird species. Your transfer begins with a stop at Yaku Kawsay, an underwater museum located inside the Yasuní National Park showing the underwater wildlife of the Amazons Rivers and Lakes. This afternoon visit the Limoncocha Biological Reserve, an incredible area to find lots of birds and a few monkeys. This evening you will search for the black caiman before returning to the Manatee at night.

Day 5

FRIDAY
This morning you will return to Coca for your flight back to Quito.

Prices include domestic airline transportation from Quito to Coca, lodge accommodation, all meals, and guided tours including all entrance fees where applicable. Activities:
Hike on terra firmae forest
This hike will lead us under the gigantic trees, for a close view of the rain forest floor to see how the lower plants compete for sunlight, among vines and epiphytes, observing the flowers and fruits that are the animals’ and birds’ nourishment.

Swimming
There are plenty of opportunities to swim in the Amazon basin’s rivers and lakes; or just go into the water to freshen up and relax.

Night excursions
Whether by paddle canoe or short walk, the feel of the tropical rainforest at night is an entirely different experience.

Short or medium-length walks

Walks are included daily in the Amazon rainforest. One of the walks will be accompanied by a native guide, who will introduce you to the secrets of the medicinal plants and their applications.

Canoe trips
This wide, whitewater river flows into the Amazon. The dense, green walls of gallery forest are broken occasionally by the small holding of the Quiches settlements as you navigate downstream. The canoe trips along the rivers are excellent opportunities for viewing parrots, macaws, herons and river turtles.

Paddle native canoes

There are many opportunities if you wish to paddle native canoes on the small black-water rivers and lakes, alone or in small groups.
