Mochima National Park
Located in the northwest of Venezuela, Mochima National Park covers 94.935 hectares of sea, coast and mountains; it consists of over fifty-three islands and islets (some still virgin); long, white beaches lined with coconut trees; and a mountainous area with flora that plunges into the sea, inlets, bays and small, fishing villages.
Mochima is set between the towns of Puerto La Cruz and Cumaná. The former–Puerto La Cruz–was a small beach resort at the turn of the century. Today it is not only a hub of modern touristic and business activity, but also the principal entrance to the park by boat. Cumaná is smaller and quieter. Founded in 1521, it’s known for red tile roofs, cobblestone streets, 18th century churches and a well-preserved, star-shaped colonial fortress with impressive dungeons and canyons.
In Mochima National Park Yampu offers accommodation at Villa Majagual, a posada located in Punta Majagual, an enclosed peninsula on the banks of Golfo de Santa Fe. Not only is this posada surrounded by a rocky coast and intricate coral reefs, it also boasts a stone path that leads through the trees to a small coral beach and the jetty that you can depart from to discover nearby islands.
