The lodge itself consists of ten, private, thatch-roofed cabańas; each equipped with single or double beds, electric lights, and modern bathrooms with showers. The cabanas are spaciously designed for double or triple occupancy, and have screened in windows to guard against insects while you sleep. Electric lights at the lodge run from ecologically friendly solar energy instead of a noisy generator to drown out the magical night sounds of the jungle, so the night sounds will be pure. Natural-oil lamps are also provided for those who appreciate that rustic feel.
One of the most amazing spots for bird watching is at the open-air bar. Relaxing at this rustic atmosphere is a truly unique experience, drinks, snacks, binoculars, games, books and an acoustic guitar are available, to make everything more pleasant.
Standard departure days are Mondays and Fridays. You may travel on any other day of the week (except Sundays) for an extra fee of $180 per canoe.

Go Back To Sani Lodge
Day 1
Monday
This morning we take a 30 minute flight to Coca over the eastern Andes, from Quito, at almost 10,000 feet to the Amazon Basin at only 820 feet. Upon arrival in Coca, you will be transferred a short distance to a comfortable passenger boat awaiting us in the Napo River Harbor. For approximately 3 hours we will travel on the Napo River looking at the exotic birds & wildlife as we enjoy a boxed lunch & relish the fact that we are in the Amazon!
Arriving at the small stream called Challuayacu, we will transfer to dugout canoes and paddle for about 45 minutes to our lake, the Challuacocha, and right up to Sani Lodge. This is the only way to access this remote and magical place; there are no roads in the area.
After we enjoy our welcome snacks & drinks, we will settle into our accommodations for a short rest before our introductory forest outing.
After the sun sets and we’ve enjoyed a relaxing dinner, you have the opportunity to look for caiman on a star-lit canoe ride, or take a night hike to experience the nocturnal activity of the jungle.
Day 2
Tuesday
Awaken to the unearthly sounds of the Howler Monkeys as they signal the start of another day. After breakfast we board a canoe for a 45-minute paddle across the lagoon, taking in the morning commotion of the birds, monkeys, caimans & so much more. We arrive at the trailhead of the Chorongo Trail where we will enjoy a slow-paced hike for 3 to 4 hours, including a small snack break. We are met at the end of the trail with the canoes, where we will quietly paddle back to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch.
After a mid-day siesta we take an afternoon hike, lasting about 2 hours, on the Swamp Trail before we return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious dinner. This evening you can opt to take another nocturnal canoe ride or hike to explore the darkness that’s full of unusual sounds.
Day 3
Wednesday
After an early breakfast, we depart from the lodge to visit the 30-meter high watchtower. After a quick 5-minute canoe ride we take a 10-minute walk to the tower where we will experience the view formerly reserved only for the birds. You pass through different levels of the forest and emerge to a completely different view of the forest below.
We continue from the tower to the Aguila Trail where we will hike about 2 ˝ hours back to the lodge, exploring the different flora & fauna of the jungle.
After lunch & a siesta, we will have time to fish for Piranha in the lagoon and watch the sun set as we float around on canoes.
Day 4
Thursday
This morning we will enjoy breakfast before getting in the dugout canoe for a 1-hour 20-minute ride to the Coto trailhead. We keep a slow pace, trying to take in all that the jungle has to show us as we continue along the trail for 2 hours. We are met at the end of the trail with the canoes & take the 1 ˝ hour ride back to the lodge. Today, after our lunch & siesta break we take another visit to the watchtower, this time to see and listen to the late afternoon activity. On your last night in the jungle, you have another opportunity to join a nighttime paddle or hike before retiring for the evening.
Day 5
Friday
We depart early in the morning for the 30 minute dawn boat ride on the Challuayacu before reaching the Napo River. Here we take the motorized boat for 3 hours back to the harbor where we will transfer to the Coca Airport and catch the return flight to Quito.
