Sucre, the official capital of Bolivia, is located in a pleasant lower valley with lots of colonial legacy. Potosi, a 16th Century silver mining city, retains much of its colonial architecture with splendid churches and the famous Mint House, with wonderful exhibits of silver and gold coining and colonial paintings. Nearby we find the famous “Cerro Rico de Potosi”, the richest Silver Mountain. Potosi was declared a “Patrimony of Humanity” by the United Nations.
Day 1
Upon arrival at Sucre airport, transfer to your hotel. Sucre, the official capital of Bolivia, is located at 2,290 meters (9,148 feet) and is considered to be the cultural center of the country because of its strong influence from colonial times. Afternoon tour of Sucre, visiting its museums and churches.
Day 2
Bus trip from Sucre to Potosí (4 hours; 103 miles), passing the Pilcomayo River, offering a spectacular contrast from the valley to the highlands. Arrival in Potosí, also known as Villa Imperial, located at 4,070 meters (13,345 feet), making it the highest city in the world. At the foot of the Cerro Rico (Rich Mountain) lie enormous mineral resources which have provided the main source of economic support for the nation. Evening tour of Potosí, visiting museums, churches and the famous “Casa de la Moneda” (Mint House). Overnight at hotel in Potosí.
Day 3
Mine tour. This tour will give you the opportunity to enter the miners’ world to see the way they work, and to hear their opinions and beliefs. Afternoon, return by bus to Sucre and transfer to your hotel.
Day 4
Transfer from your hotel to the airport to take the flight to La Paz or overlap with the add-on of your choice.
