One of the greatest “natural wonders”, the Uyuni salt flats are the biggest salts lakes in the world. 12,000 sq km of salt at an elevation of 12,000 ft, create a truly unforgettable experience as the flats reflect the sapphire-blue Altiplano sky. Start in Sucre with a half day city tour of all the cultural sites. The following day, pass the Pilcomayo River in Puente Mendez on your way to the colonial city of Potosi where you will enjoy local silver mines and other colonial sites. In the morning, cross the Andes Range on your way to Uyuni, passing by Colchani and continue to the village of Tahua for the night. The following day, cross the salt flats and visit the Incahuasi Island. View the villages of San Juan, San Agustin, the valley of Alota until you reach Villamar for the night. Depart for the REA Reserve in the morning, and visit the various lagoons in the area and finally cross the border into Chile and end your journey in San Pedro de Atacama.
Day 1
Afternoon half day city tour of Sucre visiting the cathedral, church of la Recoleta and its museum, cemetery and ASUR Indian Textiles museum.
Day 2
Transportation to Potosi passing the Pilcomayo RIver in Puente Mendez. Then you’ll go up more than 1,500m to reach the highlands and end in the famous mining city of Potosi (3 hours). In the afternoon city tour visiting the colonial city, seeing the Mint House, colonial churches and the Santa Teresa museum. Breakfast included.
Day 3
Morning at leisure. This afternoon we will transfer crossing branches of the Andes Range with great landscapes, old mines and Indian Villages to Uyuni (5 hours). Upon arrival in Uyuni you will spend an evening at your leisure.
Day 4
We begin in Uyuni and enjoy a tour visiting Colchani, Ojos de Agua geysers and the local Salt Museum. We will continue to Isla Pescado, historically named Inka Wasi. This island is located in the center of the Uyuni salt pan and has a rock surface containing fossils of marine algae. This is the largest island here and has an isolated oasis-type ecosystem. The landscape of the endless horizion against the background of the salt pans is a great place for pictures.
This afternoon, after lunch, we will visit the Galaxy Cave and Devil`s Cave before continuing to San Pedro de Quemez and overnight in the Stone Hotel.
Day 5
This morning after breakfast we will visit Frog`s Valley, and Chiarcota, Ramadita, and Hedionda Lagoons.
After lunch we will continue to Siloli’s desert where we can find the Laguna Colorad, located 4,278 meters above sea level. This lagoon is known for its reddish waters and is home to the different species of flamingos. After our visit we will continue to Soniquera and overnight at Ojos de Perdiz Hotel.
Day 6
After breakfast this morning we will take one last visit to Laguna Colorada and its surroundings. This morning we will also visit Sol de Mañana Geysers, on route to Chalviri Salt Pan. This area has intense volcanic and fumarole activity. This is an amazing site with boiling lava deep at the bottom of the crater and spouts of steam pouring out the top.
We will also explore the Chalviri Salt Flats, visiting both the White and Green Lagoons. The Green Lagoon is named after its brilliant green hues, due to the waters high magnesium content, and gives the appearance of a giant emerald. From here we will be able to see Licancahur Volcano in the distance.
We will enjoy lunch en route to Hito Cajon where we will change cars before continuing to San Pedro de Atacama and overnight in our hotel here.
