Day 1
La Paz to Copacabana
Bus transportation from La Paz to the idyllic town of Copacabana, where we will find the Dark Virgin of Copacabana and its beautiful cathedral. In the afternoon we will visit the archeological center for astronomical observation called "Horca del Inca", and "El Calvario", a hill with the Cross of Jesus Christ and a great view of Lake Titicaca. Lunch and dinner included.
Day 2
Hike to Sampaya and Boat Ride to Pilkokaina
A four-hour trek surrounding Lake Titicaca, through Indian villages and rich fields to Sampaya, the best-preserved Indian village. Most of its constructions are made in stone. Here we will be able to enjoy a great view of the lake and of the Andes range. Walk down to the bay and take the boat to the Island of the Sun. Overnight near the ruins of Pilkokaina (basic lodging). Lunch and dinner included.
Day 3
Hike across the Island
A pleasant three-hour walk, visiting Yumani, also called "the Garden of the Incas". Here we find a water spring called Spring of the Eternal Youth, which is where the Incas received baptism.
Day 4
Hike to "La Chincana"
Boat to the bay of La Chincana (1 hour), and hike up to the Inca ruins of the same name, also called Labyrinth. We will then hike through the island until we reach the village of Yumani. Boat back to Copacabana (1 hour) and bus to La Paz or overlap with the extensions below. Lunch included.
