Villa de Leyva
Founded in 1572 by Andrés Díaz Venero de Leyva (by order of the kingdom of Granada), Villa de Leyva is a small, colonial town so well-preserved that it seems to be from another time. It boasts architecture straight out of Andalucía, small alleys and cobblestone streets surrounded by period buildings (such as the cathedral, the house of Antonio Narińo, the house of Antonio Ricaurte, the House of Congress, the Colonial Art Museum, the Monasterio and Convento del Carmen and the Museo del Maestro Acuńa). With good reason, Colombia declared this town a national monument in the 50’s.
Located about 4 hours from Bogotá, Villa de Leyva has become a weekend getaway of sorts. Its dry and mild climate makes it ideal for roaming around on the cobble stone streets of the town, exploring and just kicking back and going with the slower pace that prevails there.
We offer several charming, colonial Posadas which are conveniently located in Villa de Leyva. Please inquire about the options with one of our travel consultants.
