The journey begins in the remote town of Iquitos, then meanders through the wildlife-rich Amazonian rain forest, all aboard the brand new M/V Aqua. This experience will awaken your senses to the richness of life. You will be witness to the incredible array of flora and fauna in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, a flooded forest covering five million acres at the headwaters of the Amazon basin. Spot howler monkeys, the elusive pink river dolphin, or the giant jiburu, either during a day-trip or from the comfort of the ship’s observation deck, then discuss the day’s adventure over a delicious meal aboard the M/V Aqua. Each day affords a new discovery, as the beauty and variety of the life in this region will undoubtedly surprise and delight you.

Optional excursions include venturing into remote creeks to witness giant river otters nesting, an array of yellow-crowned brush-tail bats, frogs, night monkeys and more. Along the voyage you will visit traditional Amazonian villages such as San Juan del Amazonas, where the Cocama Indians carry on their tribe’s traditions living in thatched stilt houses and earning their living by fishing.

The Amazon River in Peru has two seasons, a high water season (December through May) and a low water season (June through November). During both seasons you will be able to see the fascinating flora and fauna of the Amazon and you can expect some periods of heavy rain even in the ‘low water’ season. Dependent on your interests, the two seasons offer slightly different experiences. During the ‘high water’ season the flooded rivers and streams of the Amazon Basin allow you to explore the waterways up close aboard a skiff seeing monkeys and other Amazon wildlife. During the ‘low water’ season the jungle paths that were flooded clear and you will be able to enjoy jungle hikes, view exotic birds as they migrate through the Amazon and fish for piranhas during this peak fishing season.
