On this trip, marvel at one of Africa’s premier wildlife viewing experiences during a luxurious camping tour of Botswana. On frequent game drives through exotic riverine ecosystems, grasslands and forests of ebony trees, you will experience a teeming variety of Africa’s renowned wildlife including lions, leopards, buffalos, zebras and elephants.

You will experience the true feel of the land in this tour of Botswana as there will be overnight camping at each leg of the trip. The camping setups ensure luxurious accommodations with all of the essentials, including beds and linens, a private bush shower and toilet, toiletries, three hearty meals a day with drinks, and a long list of further amenities to make each night as comfortable as possible. You will take part in very in depth tours of all of Chobe National Park’s most popular regions, including Savute and the Moremi Game Reserve. Following this, two full days will be available at the other end of the trip to explore the never ending mazes of the Okavango Delta. Daily morning and afternoon game drives are sure to provide spectacular wildlife viewing and constant changes in scenery.

The best time to visit these regions of northern Botswana is during the dry months of May through October. At this time the bush will be dried and thinned, thus providing better chances for game viewing in most areas. Conversely, the dry season creates immense floods within the Okavango Delta, thus attracting vast numbers of animals out of the dry interior to the new water resources. This time also brings forth favorably warm sunny days and cool nights, with virtually no rain.

This trip can be customized to fit your individual travel dates and any specific requests you may have. Your travel consultant will prepare a customized itinerary for you. Yampu offers a choice Mourla (comfort) or Ebony (deluxe) level camping. Ebony Level Safaris are limited to 4 people, as the tents are larger, while up to 16 people can be accommodated for in the Morula Level Safari.

The Morula Level Mobile Safari is catered toward the more adventurous traveler, yet provides a few comforts. To highlight some of the amenities available, the tents are 3×3 meter dome tents, complete with an iron bed and mattress, toiletries, a full bar offering soft drinks, beer and wine, and an en-suite bush shower and toilet.

The Ebony Level Mobile Safaris are designed for the comfort conscious traveler, with larger 5×3 meter walk in tents, complete with the same basic amenities listed for the Morula level, but with more pillows, a change of clean linens during safaris, a thicker mattress, a sided mess tent with flooring and shades, and additional luggage space. Also, the Ebony level is limited to smaller groups and staff travel in additional vehicles to ensure that each proceeding camp is set up prior to arrival.

2 Person Morula Safari will not have a back up vehicle and the staff and equipment will travel with the clients when moving between camping areas.

Day 1

Overnight flight to Kasane via Johannesburg.

Day 2

Upon arrival, airport reception and transfer to Chobe by your personal guide. Eat a packed lunch en route. Arrive at camp in the afternoon with the option of settling into camp or participating on a short game drive, where you can enjoy a sundowner near the Chobe River before returning. Within the park you can expect riverine ecosystems near the Chobe riverfront, as well as mixed woodlands further from the water. This northern part of Chobe is most well known for it’s the largest elephant and herds in all of Africa. Despite the absence of rhinos, the riverfront here harbors nearly every type of mammal to be found in Southern Africa.

Day 3

Awake early in the morning for a short game drive to track animals of all sizes. Depending on what is found during the drive, you will return to your camp around 11 am for a light lunch. Here you can relax and catch up on some sleep if needed before heading out on an afternoon game drive at 3 pm. Following your arrival back at camp you can have the luxury of a hot bush shower to be topped off with dinner under the night sky.

Day 4

Awake early for a short morning game drive, while the support team breaks camp before heading to Savute, the western region of Chobe. Here, they will set up camp before your arrival. In the meantime, you will break for a packed lunch en route to meet at Savute. This is approximately a 5 hour drive through several communities and the national park. Once at your new camp, you will have the opportunity to freshen up and take part in a short game drive to explore the new area, before returning to camp for the night.

Day 5

Today you will have the entire day to explore the Marsh of Savuti, which is mostly comprised of grasslands, bush, and stony outcrops. The wildlife here consists of lone elephant bulls, accompanied by large herds of buffaloes, zebras, impalas wildebeests and antelopes, which sustain the local populations of cheetahs, wild dogs, and hyenas. To give you the best chances of seeing these animals, you will begin early in the morning and break for lunch at camp during the heat of the day, before returning to the bush in the afternoon and finally back to camp for the evening.

Day 6

Awake early for a short morning game drive, while the support team breaks camp before heading to the Moremi Game Reserve, the only part of the Okavango Delta that is officially set aside for the preservation of wildlife. Here, they will set up camp before your arrival. In the meantime, you will break for a packed lunch en route to meet at your new camp. Expect a four hour drive through the park and more small communities. Once at your new camp, you will have the opportunity to freshen up and take part in a short game drive to explore the new area, before returning to camp for the night

Day 7

Today you will have the entire day to explore the Khwai region of the Moremi Game Reserve. This wetland area, with developed forests and riverine woodlands, also contains large herds of breeding elephants, as well as lechwe, waterbuck, impala, and hippos. Other animals that may be spotted are buffalo, giraffe, bushbuck, lion, wild dog, leopard, cheetah, black-backed and side-striped jackal, zebra, wildebeest, tsessebe, bush babies, fruit bats, able, kudu, roan, steenbok, duiker, honey badger, and a variety of both water and land birds.

Day 8

Drive into the Okavango Delta to explore this unique environment for a full 2 days. This new region is predominantly wetland, but it varies from grassy flood plains, forests and woodlands, open lagoons with palm fringed islands, and areas of sausage and ebony trees. A bizarre sight, large termite mounds can be seen spotting the landscape. The scenery here in the Delta is truly unique to this part of the world and is matched by no other. Take part in your choice of a 3 hour boat cruise or mokoro tour for a chance get a closer view at the water based wildlife.

Day 9

Continue exploring the expansive landscape of the Okavango Delta with two final game drives or have a second chance to choose an optional 3 hour mokoros tour or additional boat cruise. After an early rise, embark on your morning game drive and return to camp for brunch, before heading out for your final afternoon game drive. If you have chosen an alternative water based activity (for additional cost), it will replace the afternoon drive between 2-5 pm. Back in camp for the final night, enjoy one last dinner under the stars and take the opportunity to discuss your safari experiences with your guide.

Day 10

Depart camp early in the morning for the town of Maun (approximately 4 hours’ drive). Board your flight back home via Johannesburg or overlap with the add-on of your choice.
