Bogota has a combination of influences: Spanish, Indian and African, which create a diverse and rich culture heritage. With an intense and vibrant intellectual and social life, this modern city provides travelers with a unique look in the heart of Colombian culture. Villa of Leyva, a beautiful small colonial town untouched by time and ideally seen by foot. Since Colombia declared the town a national monument in the 50’s it has been lovingly restored and preserved. Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-see destination in Colombia. This hot, sultry city filled with color, music and charm is the perfect way to experience Colombia’s culture. Wander through the streets and alleys of the old walled city, with its tiled roofs, balconies and flower-filled courtyards.

We will spend 2 days in Bogota and visit La Candelaria, Plaza Bolivar, Monserrate and the Gold Museum. We will visit the beautiful colonial city of Villa de Leyva and Zipaquira’s Underground Salt Cathedral. We will spend 3 days in Cartagena, take a trip to the Rosario Islands and tour the old walled city center. We will spend 2 days in the beautiful Islas del Rosario. You may choose to add a few nights in Tayrona National Park or Santa Marta.

We offer a choice of 3, 4, 5-star and deluxe hotels. In Cartagena, the deluxe option includes the Casa del Arzobispado or the Quadrifolio Hotel. Cartagena has many beautiful hotels in the old section of the city. Accommodation on the Islas del Rosario is in 3, 4 or 5-star hotels. This tour includes international airfare from London (UK), on non-holiday dates. You do not need to fly via London; Yampu will fly you the most direct way to your city of destination. Depending on your travel dates and proximity of travel, we will quote you the most economical surcharge from your city or country of origin.

Day 1

Bogotá
Take the flight to Bogota. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Bogota has a combination of influences: Spanish, Indian and African, which create a diverse and rich culture heritage. With an intense and vibrant intellectual and social life, this modern city provides travelers with a unique look in the heart of Colombian culture.

Day 2

City tour of Bogota with Monserrate
Visit to the famous Gold Museum, the Museo del Oro which houses 30,000 gold objects and 20,000 in stone, ceramic, textiles and precious stones of the Quimbaya, Calima, Tairona, Sinu, Muisca, Tolima, Tumaco and Magdalena cultures. The Museo del Oro has the most important collection of its kind worldwide. Our tour continues to the historic center known as La Candelaria where the center square is Plaza Bolivar. The square named for the statue in the center of Simón Bolívar. La Candelaria, the oldest part of the city, boasts grand houses of profound Spanish influence with iron windows, thick wooden doors, balconies and internal patios that hide beautiful gardens. Once we leave this area we will continue on to Quinta de Bolivar, the country house of Simon Bolivar. Set at the foot of Cerro de Monserrate, with magnificent surrounding gardens, the museum is filled with documents, letters, maps, uniforms and personal possessions that help to piece together events in his life. We travel by cable car up to 10,500 feet, top of the Mountain that looks over Bogotá. Note: Museums closed on Monday.

Day 3

Bogotá – Zipaquirá – Villa de Leyva
We will travel across the central region of the savanna, home to Colombia’s famous flower cultures as you can see from the greenhouses along the road. Upon arrival at Zipaquira, visit to the impressive Salt Cathedral, a magnificent work of engineering. Zipa was the owner of the area’s rich salt mines and a chieftain of the Muiscas community. We begin by viewing the fourteen stations of the Way of the Cross as we walk through a tunnel that takes us to a dome-shaped room to see the Great Cross sculpture. Eventually, we come to the three naves of the cathedral joined by openings that represent the birth and death of Christ. The central nave houses the main altar, a 16 meter cross, and the Creation of Man, a marble statue by the sculptor Carlos Enrique Rodríguez. Afternoon transfer to Villa de Leyva. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Villa de Leyva, one of the area’s most beautiful colonial towns, was founded in 1572 by Andrés Díaz Venero de Leyva by order of the kingdom of Granada. Today, the city is a colonial jewel with Spanish style houses, small alleys, cobblestone streets and the Plaza .

Day 4

Villa de Leyva - Bogotá– Cartagena
Morning at leisure to tour Villa de Leyva’s historic city center. Transfer back to Bogotá and visit the Convento Ecce Huomo on the way. Upon arrival in Bogotá, take the flight to Cartagena. Upon arrival, transfer to you hotel. Cartagena is the fifth largest city in Colombia and an important port city on the Caribbean coast. After numerous pirate attacks during the colonial era, a wall was built to surround the historic city center and protect its inhabitants. Cartagena is now a popular tourist destination that retains its colonial architecture and charm.

Day 5

Cartagena Old Town Walk
Guided walk along the walled old town, watching the streets, churches, colonial houses with their balconies, the Museum that was the residence of the five times president of the Republic, Rafael Nuńez; the Santa Catalina bastion, the craftsmanship place at Las Bovedas (The Dungeons) where you will find handmade souvenirs. The walled, colonial city center of Cartagena was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 6

Cartagena
Day at leisure to enjoy Cartagena. You may want to add an excursion to the Totumo Volcano to enjoy a mud bath in its crater!

Day 7

Islas del Rosario
Cruise to Rosario Islands, to the south of the Bay of Cartagena. These Islands are a National Natural Park with a group of coral islands surrounded by a crystal clear sea, the habitat of a great variety of marine fauna. Opportunity to swim and snorkel. The 23 coral islands were formed by volcano activity which raised the seabed to create ideal conditions for the development of coral reefs. Lunch Included. Overnight on Rosario Island.

Day 8

Isla del Rosario
Day at leisure to enjoy the Rosario Islands.

Day 9

Cartagena – Bogotá
Return to Cartagena and transfer to the airport to take the flight to Bogota. Upon arrival, connect with your international flight back home.
