The Classic Antarctic Expedition is a privileged journey to the only historically uninhabited continent on Earth. The trip begins in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, from here you will navigate through the historic Drake Passage, where the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans meet, and on to Antarctica where a wealth of natural wonders await you.

On this journey you will navigate from the southern tip of America to the icy continent of Antarctica, passing the South Shetland Islands. Although not home to a native human population, Antarctica is a natural refuge for whales, elephant seals, penguins and albatross. You will have the opportunity to witness this amid the breathtaking backdrop of pristine glaciers, sudden islands amid icy waters, and an ever-changing sky. As part of a small onboard community of about 84 people, along with an expert expedition team to inform and guide you along the way, this adventure is surely one that will change your perspective of the world.

As there is no way to know what will be seen, each voyage is unique and the expedition team will provide formal presentations that are chosen specifically in response to the sightings and activities that you experienced. Also, a guest lecturer will be aboard each vessel to teach you about the many types of wildlife you will see.

Day 1

This afternoon, embark the USHUAIA and meet your expedition and lecture staff. After you have settled into your cabins, set sail along the famous Beagle Channel and the scenic Mackinlay Pass.

Day 2

Drake Passage
Become familiar with the ship on this your first full day at sea. Members of the Expedition Team keep you company on deck, identifying seabirds that glide along side of the ship for miles at a time.

Day 3

Drake Passage
The first sightings of icebergs and snow-capped mountains indicate that we have reached the South Shetland Islands, a group of twenty islands and islets first sighted in February 1819 by Capt. William Smith of the brig Williams. With favorable conditions in the Drake Passage our lecturers and naturalists will accompany you ashore as you experience your first encounter with the penguins and seals.

Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands
Shore landings are announced the night before in the daily program delivered to your cabin. Your exploration of the Antarctic Peninsula may include visits to penguin rookeries, research stations and encounters

Arrival to Ushuaia. Exchange photographs and e-mail addresses with your new found friends, before being transferred to the airport for your flight home.

Originally built for the United States agency NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration), the USHUAIA has been refurbished to accommodate a maximum of 84 passengers in 41 comfortable twin cabins and suites. The ice-strengthened polar vessel USHUAIA is very well appointed and provides ample deck space and an open bridge policy. The full complement of inflatable landing craft

ensures superb landings and wildlife viewing opportunities on the otherwise inaccessible

coastline.

All cabins include ample storage space. Public areas feature a large dining room (one sitting), an observation lounge and bar, a conference room with modern multimedia equipment, a well-stocked library, a changing room and a small infirmary. Our expert captain, officers and crew are highly experienced in Antarctic navigation and have a great love of nature. We provide a specialist team of international expedition leaders and lecturers, all extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, helpful and dedicated to the protection of the environment. Our chefs prepare excellent cuisine including many local specialties and the bar is well-stocked with carefully selected wines and spirits.
