Yampu’s complete El Salvador tour begins in San Salvador, the capital and largest city in the country. We will visit the city of Santa Ana, Mayan ruins at Joya de Ceren, San Andres and Tazumal. After visiting a coffee plantation, we will head to Nahuizalco, a small town famous for its wicker and tule products that are available at the historic evening market.

We will tour Volcanoes National Park and admire the stunning views of Izalco and Santa Ana volcanoes, and Coatepeque Lake. Traveling north from San Salvador, we will visit the ruins and museum of Sihuatan, the town of La Palma – famous for its colorful wood handicrafts, Lake Suchitlan, the colonial town of Suchitoto, the Jiboa Valley with impressive views of hills and volcanoes and the beautiful El Cuco Beach.

We offer 3, 4 and 5-star hotels in San Salvador. The hotels in other cities are of 3 or 4-star quality. You may want to add a few extra days to enjoy the beautiful beaches of El Cuco Beach. Please inquire about these options with one of our Travel Consultants.

Day 1

San Salvador
Take the flight to El Salvador. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Afternoon San Salvador City Tour. San Salvador is known for its major landmarks such the Metropolitan Cathedral, Monument to the Savior of the World, Monument to Liberty and the National Theatre of El Salvador. San Salvador is the second most populous city in Central American and home to one half of the country’s wealth. You may want to add the panoramic night city tour to experience the lively restaurants and bars of San Salvador. Overnight San Salvador.

Day 2

Mayan Ruins Tour
Full day tour to the archeological site of Joya de Ceren, a UNESCO heritage site. Joya de Ceren was a pre-Columbian Mayan village, known as the “Pompeii of the Americas,” because was covered by hot ashes after an eruption of a nearby volcano like the ancient Roman ruins. We continue to the pre-Hispanic ruins of San Andres and its ceremonial center. San Andres had contacts throughout present day Central America, and traded with Peten, Teotihuacan and Copan. We will then tour Santa Ana and admire its beautiful theater and the turrets of the neo-gothic cathedral. Santa Ana is the second largest city in El Salvador and major center for the country’s coffee industry. Finally, we will visit Chalchuapa, for a short tour of the Pre-Columbian Maya archeological site in Tazumal. Overnight San Salvador.

Day 3

Coffee and Salvadorian Villages Tour
Full day tour beginning with the colorful town of Ataco. We will visit a coffee factory to learn how coffee is made, from growing and harvesting to the delicious final product. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the beautiful city of Ataco and admire its charms. We will continue to Nahuizalco, a small town with strong indigenous roots, known for its wicker and tule works and famous for its evening market dating from ancient times. Overnight in Apaneca.

Day 4

Volcanoes National Park Tour
Volcanoes National Park boasts impressive views of Izalco and Santa Ana’s volcanoes, and Coatepeque Lake. Izalco Volcano erupted almost continuously from 1770 to 1958 and was known as the “Lighthouse of the Pacific.” Santa Ana Volcano is the highest volcano in El Salvador and is 2,381 meters above sea level. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy Coatepeque Lake. Return to San Salvador. Overnight in San Salvador.

Day 5

Colonial Towns and Jibao Valley Tour
We will travel north to the town of La Palma, known for its colorful wood handicrafts, and visit a local factory. On the way, we will tour the ruins and museum of Sihuatan, home of the biggest pre-Hispanic settlement in El Salvador. Afternoon tour of the picturesque colonial town of Suchitoto. Suchitoto was founded in 1528, and is one of the few cities in El Salvador that still has cobblestone streets. It has become a popular weekend destination for Salvadorians and tourists due to the wide range of cultural activities that it has to offer. We will continue through the Jiboa Valley that offers beautiful views of hills and volcanoes. Overnight in Suchitoto.

Day 6

Civil War Tour
Morning departure to San Miguel to enjoy a city tour. San Miguel is the third largest city in El Salvador and a major commercial and manufacturing center. We will continue to Morazan, and finally, arrive in Perkin. This region of the country was a stronghold of the guerilla movement during the Civil War and the site of El Mozote Massacre. We will tour the war museum and El Mozote memorial site. In the evening, we will enjoy a traditional dinner. Overnight in Perkin.

Day 7

El Cuco Beach
We will depart Perkin and admire the stunning Salvadorian Coast on the way to the beautiful El Cuco Beach. Overnight in El Cuco Beach.

Day 8

San Salvador
Transfer to the airport to take the flight back home.
