Mendoza, founded by Spanish colonists more than four centuries ago, is a city rich in history and culture. It is also home to America’s highest mountain, the Aconcagua, and some of the most important wineries in Argentina. After visiting this lovely city, you will have the opportunity to taste some of the finest wines in Argentina. We will tour Mendoza’s most renowned wine cellars and observe their intricate elaboration process, and will gape at the awe inspiring size of Aconcagua. This tour also includes a visit to Puente del Inca, another natural wonder located in this Andean landscape.
Day 1
Upon arrival in Mendoza, transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, we will embark on a private tour which will make it possible to learn the history and culture of the city of Mendoza, founded by Spanish colonists more than four centuries ago. We will go through its tree-lined avenues and streets bordered by “acequias” (irrigation ditches) and visit the most important sites in the city. Return to the hotel.
Day 2
Depart to visit some wineries in the region. We will visit established wineries such as Fabre Mont Mayou. Stop and visit the Lagarde winery and enjoy the beautiful sight of rows of grape vines. We will also visit the thermoelectric power plant, Ingoniero Cipolletti dam, the University of Agricultural Sciences, and La Carrodilla Church.
Day 3
Travel west and arrive at Potrerillos Uspallata (mountain valley with huge groves and colorful hills with an amazing landscape). Setting off again, we get into the Andean Range. We visit Picheuta historical bridge, tunnels of 'cortaderas,' Polvaredas (rail settlement), Paramillos and Punta de Vacas settlement, source of the Mendoza River, Gendarmerie outpost and Cerro Tupungato. Visit to Penitentes ski center, Puente del Inca with its sulphur and radioactive thermal springs (2700mts above the sea level), Cerro Aconcagua's viewpoint (America's colossus), Villa Fronteriza Las Cuevas: farthest Argentinean settlement, Gendarmerie. Within a short ridge road distance we are at Cristo Redentor (4200 mts high, maximum expression of epic and peace) Argentinean-Chilean border. Head back to Puente del Inca.
Note: If you prefer, we can replace this tour with a full-day visit to other wineries in the area such as San Rafael and San Juan.
