On this eight day fly-in safari of Namibia you will be taken to some of the most picturesque landscapes of this starkly beautiful country. In the Etendeka Mountains you can enjoy the solitude of its vastness and marvel at the uniqueness of its flat-topped and layered hills. Then, spend two nights in the Bavarian styled coastal town of Swakopmund before heading to the great red sand dunes of Sossusvlei.

On the first leg of this tour, you will be based within the exclusive Kulala Reserve, where you will have close access to one of Namibia’s most iconic and most visited attractions, the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei. Enjoy this photographic paradise as you explore the dunes and marvel at the apparently endless sea of red sand, before heading to the pretty town coastal town of Swakopmund.

This Bavarian styled town nestled within the dunes of the Skeleton coast will give you a relaxing couple of days back in civilization. Here, you can take comfort in exploring the town’s shops, restaurants, bars, beachfront, and open air markets. Enjoy a tour to Walvis Bay to experience the coast one day, while having the chance to engage in some adventure sports the next.

The last stop, in the Etendeka Mountains, provides a pristine wilderness experience that appeals to photographers, naturalists, astronomers and geologists alike, as well as lovers of peace, quiet and open space. This 2 night stay will provide a grassroots safari experience in the beautiful Kunene region, with a combination of driving and walking excursions to explore the breathtaking scenery and local wildlife.

Flight weight restrictions: 20 kg soft luggage including camera equipment and hand luggage per person only. Only soft bags will be accepted. No hard suitcases or soft bags with wheels can be transported – they physically will not fit into the aircraft. Weight planning for a male passenger is done using 90 kgs (198 lbs) and a female is 72 kgs (158 lbs). Please be advised: If your client weighs more than the above, there may be aircraft weight limitation issues. Please notify the supplier if this is the case.

Day 1

Overnight flight to Windhoek via Johannesburg

Day 2

Upon arrival, airport reception and transfer to Sossusvlei via light aircraft. After arriving and settling into your comfortable room you can enjoy a late afternoon sundowner drive on the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve which has 22 000 hectares of pristine desert habitat to explore. This is a relaxing way to settle into this unique habitat and end the day with truly beautiful views before heading back to the Homestead for dinner.

Day 3

Take an early morning trip into the Namib-Naukluft National Park to visit the dunes around Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Your guide will explain how this dramatic landscape formed and is evolving as sands shift thoroughout the year. The photographic opportunities here are endless as you find ancient acacia trees throwing shadows onto brightly colored sand. If you have the energy, you can climb the dunes and marvel at the sweeping views of the sea of red sand. Exploring the pans will uncover some of the smaller wildlife that survives this arid environment. During the heat of the day, make your way to a shady spot for a refreshing drink and a picnic.

Once returning to the Homestead after lunch at the dunes, there will be plenty of time to cool off in the swimming pool before you meet your guide again for tea and coffee at around 4pm. The late afternoon could be enjoyed in a number of ways. You could take a drive or a guided walk close to the lodge. There is more vegetation here that inside the national park and that means you can find some of the regions larger wildlife including, oryx, springbok, ostrich, and jackal to name a few species. For a different experience, horseback riding on the reserve may be arranged. Meandering across endless plains or discovering ancient water courses on a beautifully groomed steed is a magical way to appreciate your surroundings.

Day 4

Awake early to enjoy breakfast before your departure. For an added cost, choose to engage in a sunrise baloon safari over the desert.

Depending on your arrival time, you will spend your first afternoon exploring the pretty coastal town of Swakopmund. There are plentiful window shopping opportunities ranging from quirky antiques to local gemstones and clothing. The locals are extremely fond of the beachfront promenade which bustles with walkers, fishermen and swimmers. The waterfront is also home to a small aquarium and museum which covers all aspects of the town’s history. There are informal open air craft markets next to the town lighthouse.

Day 5

This day will start with an early 30 minute road transfer to Walvis Bay, a working harbor just south of the town. At the yacht club, you will board a small boat and motor out into the bay with your marine guide. You will see abundant marine wildlife, while your guide will explain the ins and outs of this protected habitat. There are also oyster beds in the bay and you may have the chance to try some of these local oysters with a glass of sparkling wine. On your return to land you can choose to eat lunch at an interesting stilted restaurant on the bay or head back to Swakopmund. Return to town for a day of leisure or choose an afternoon activity or alternative full day activity at an additional cost. Activities include a community township tour to see schools, homes, and lifestyles of the locals, or a desert tour, a day on the coastal dunes, or an ocean kayak tour.

Day 6

On this morning, you may have the opportunity to experience any activity you have yet to try, or choose to stay in town and perhaps have a final breakfast overlooking the Skeleton Coast. Then, board your flight for your air transfer to the Etendeka Mountains.

Once arrived, you will take some time to settle in to your surroundings before leaving camp on a wildlife drive or short walk, with one of the camp’s outstanding guides, to learn more about the flora, fauna, and geography of the area. While returning back to camp, the fascinating number of plant species, which have many uses from medicines to poisons, will be explained to you, but not without stopping to enjoy the solitude along with a cold drink. After a chance to shower and relax, your evening is spent watching your guides cook supper over an open fire with the delights of their many tales.

Day 7

Upon awaking, enjoy a hearty breakfast and the blissful silence of your surroundings, before you and your guide move further up into the surrounding mountains to enjoy the views, wildlife and birding. The morning drive usually includes a walk for those who are keen to explore away from the 4wd trails and the elevated views make this a unique experience. The sighting of Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx, springbok, giraffe, or perhaps even the desert elephant or black rhino may ad an exciting bonus to your day. This is also home to many of Namibia’s endemic birds, such as the Herero Chat, Monteiro’s Hornbill, Rüppell’s Korhaan and Damara Rockrunner.

Lunch is enjoyed under shade at camp and offers a chance to recharge camera batteries as well as energy levels. This also offers time for a siesta during the hottest part of the day. You meet again at 4 p.m. for tea and cake before heading out on the afternoon activity. This is a good time of the day to take a drive with antelope busy browsing vegetation and larger wildlife moving again after their midday inactivity. As the sun sets, the large cats, including lion, leopard, and cheetah, may be spotted as they emerge for their evening hunt. You will arrive back in camp just before sundown for a refreshing shower and cold drink. If you have an interest in astronomy, this is one of the finest countries on the planet for clear night skies and the camp has a telescope for you to use.

Day 8

Transfer back to Windhoek for your flight back home or the add-on of your choice.
