We will also take a full day tour to Ancud in the island of Chiloé. During your experience you will enjoy fascinating scenery of lakes, waterfalls, and volcanoes that perturb high into the sky.
Day 1
Transfer to the airport and take flight to Puerto Montt. En route to Puerto Varas, you will have a tour of Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas. Puerto Montt is the capital of the region and here you will visit the downtown area and the main square. During your visit to Puerto Montt you will also visit Angelmó the pretty fisherman port and craft center famous for the beautiful wool crafts and woodwork. Here there will be an opportunity to taste the delicious and fresh seafood at one of the cozy bayside restaurants. Leaving Puerto Montt you will then visit the town of Puerto Varas, founded in 1854 by German immigrants. Once in Puerto Varas you will travel down to the lakeshore and enjoy the view of the tranquil waters with the Osorno volcano in the background before transferring to your hotel.
Day 2
Full-day visit to Ancud in Chiloe
Depart from Puerto Varas early in the morning and drive to Pargua, where the ferry goes to the “big island” of Chiloe. Pass through Chacao and Caulin, where there is much bird life. Continue to Ancud, the largest town on the north of the island and visit the main square, the Chile Tour Museum which has a picture display of the history of Chile, showing the myths and legends for which the island is famous. Continue past the Gulf of Quitalmahue to the fort of San Antonio for a visit here. Time for lunch and in the afternoon visit the Huaihuén hill for a beautiful view of the town and its surroundings. Return to Puerto Varas and transfer to your hotel.
Day 3
Full-day boat excursion to Peulla
Depart from Puerto Varas around 9 a.m. Continue along the southern shore of Lake Llanquihue with wonderful views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. Enter the Petrohue National Park where there is a stop to visit the Petrohue waterfalls where the icy green waters from Esmeralda Lake (also known as All Saints Lake) flow over a lip of volcanic rock. Continue on the lake and the pier which is the departure point for the catamaran traveling to Peulla, a tiny hamlet on the other side of the lake. On the way, enjoy views of the Osorno Volcano, Mount Puntiagudo and Mount Tronador. The sailing takes almost two hours. In Peulla, there is enough time for lunch and a short walk, maybe to the nearby waterfalls or along the shores of the lake before returning by catamaran and bus to Puerto Varas.
