Tango, Iguazu Falls, Mendoza and El Ombu de Areco
|
|
This highlight will guide us to the capital city of Argentina, Buenos Aires, to learn Tango at its purest. We will also have the chance to see the deep flowing waters of the Iguazu River that fall from a height of 30 feet through 275 falls, spanning over one and a half miles to form the Iguazu Falls. We will appreciate the delicious Argentinean wines in Mendoza before being enticed by the Gaucho tradition at Estancia El Ombu de Areco where we will enjoy a typical Argentinean barbeque of the world’s finest beef raised locally and free-ranged.
Going to Argentina and not learning Tango is like going to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower. Learn and participate in this marvelous dance and see the professional Tango dancers perform in the streets.
The Iguazu Falls and National Park are located ten miles from Puerto Iguazu. The deep flowing waters of the river fall from a height of 30 feet through 275 falls over one and a half mile. The frontier with Brazil goes through the Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) where the falling water gives the illusion of magic rainbows. The National Park is full of the exotic subtropical vegetation which surrounds the falls and has 2.000 plant species – gigantic trees, ferns, lianas, orchids; 400 bird species – parrots, colibries, toucans; jaguars and yacarés (caimans).
You can see many of the falls up close via a system of catwalks installed, which offer unmatchable views. Around the falls, there is a 6,000 hectare natural reserve. Above the falls, the river itself is suitable for canoeing, kayaking and other water sports. This area contains extensive areas of subtropical rain forest, with unique flora and fauna, hundreds of species of birds and many mammals and reptiles.
Mendoza, founded by Spanish colonists more than four centuries ago, is a city rich in history and culture. It is also home to America’s highest mountain, the Aconcagua, and some of the most important wineries in Argentina. After visiting this lovely and very friendly city, you will have the chance to taste some of the finest wines in Argentina. We will tour Mendoza’s most renowned wine cellars and observe their intricate elaboration process, and will gape at the awe inspiring size of Mt. Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the American continent.
El Ombú de Areco, a historical estancia just over an hour’s drive from downtown Buenos Aires, is located in San Antonio de Areco, birthplace of the gaucho tradition. The Late-Colonial style mansion, built in 1880 by Lieutenant-general Pablo Riccheri, offers visitors a magnificent setting for an unforgettable stay. Enrique Boelcke, grandfather of the present owner Eva Boelcke, purchased the El Ombú in 1934. Eva’s father, Osvaldo, a renowned botanist, ran the estancia as a working ranch until his death in 1990. Eva was trained as an agronomist, but since 1993 has expanded her role as farm manager to include local and international estancia tourism.
We offer a choice of 3, 4, and 5-star hotels in Iguazu Falls and Mendoza. Our hotel in Buenos Aires is Masión Dandi Royal, a themed hotel, unique in its artistic presentation of the Tango ambience, built to the eclectic architectural style and filled with Art Noveaux stylish pieces. The Hotel and Mansion has 30 guest rooms, furnished with elegant and stylish wooden furniture. In San Antonio de Areco, we will be staying at El Ombú, a beautiful Estancia inspired in the Gaucho tradition. El Ombú offers nine spacious, modernized bedrooms, with en suite bathrooms, large windows and an interesting array of period furniture.
