This is a packed trip that will take Yampu travelers to Costa Rica’s main highlights: Tortuguero National Park, the third-most popular park in Costa Rica, although it can only be reached by airplane or boat; Sarapiqui; the Arenal Volcano; Monteverde Cloud Forest; Rincón de la Vieja National Park, where you may find quetzals, curassows, cougars, monkeys, kinkajous and jaguars; and ending in Tamarindo with its beautiful beaches.

This tour includes airfare allowance from London (UK), on non-holiday dates. You do not need to fly via London; Yampu will fly you the most direct way to your city of destination. Depending on your travel dates and proximity of travel, we will quote you the most economical surcharge from your city or country of origin.

Day 1

Upon arrival in San José, transfer to your hotel.

Day 2

San José - Tortuguero
Pick-up at hotel in San José for transfer to Tortuguero. On the way, admire the biodiversity of an astonishing protected area in Costa Rica as we drive by Braulio Carrillo National Park—95 percent primary forest. We will visit a banana processing and packaging plant, and learn more about one of Costa Rica’s prime products. We will then board a comfortable boat upon arrival at the port to travel along the Tortuguero Canals. Upon arrival at the lodge, enjoy a refreshing cocktail and a delicious lunch. Next, we will visit the museum, the beach area and the small and picturesque town of Tortuguero. A delightful dinner will be served upon arrival at the lodge. Overnight in Tortuguero. All meals included.

Day 3

Tortuguero
In the morning, guided visit to Tortuguero National Park. In the afternoon, you can visit the canals or rest in the hotel. At night, you can go see the turtles hatching (August and September). All meals included.

Day 4

Tortuguero - Sarapiqui
Departure to Guapiles, where we will have lunch. After lunch, private transfer to Sarapiqui. Overnight in Sarapiqui. Lunch included.

Day 5

Sarapiqui - Arenal
Shuttle transfer to Arenal Volcano. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Overnight at hotel in Arenal. In the evening, visit hot springs for a fabulous and healing bath then enjoy a relaxing, included dinner.

Day 6

Arenal Hanging Bridges
Located within the corridor followed by birds migrating between North and South America, the trails and bridges of this project will bring you as close as you could ever hope to get to the birds, the flowers and the lush vegetation of the primary rain forest. You will be able to walk right into the forest, thanks to the imposing hanging bridges and the beautiful trails that are safe and easy to walk on.

Day 7

Arenal - Monteverde
Shuttle bus transfer from Arenal to Monteverde. Afternoon, at leisure. Overnight in Monteverde.

Day 8

Visit to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Wind-sculptured elfin woodlands on the exposed ridges are spectacularly dwarfed, whereas protected cove Monteverde rainforests have majestically tall trees festooned with orchids, bromeliads, ferns, vines and mosses. Poorly drained areas support swamp forests, whereas parts of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, dissected by deep gorges, have numerous crystal-clear streams tumbling over rapids and waterfalls. The variable climate and large altitudinal gradient have helped produce an extremely high biodiversity. Spectacular wildlife includes the Jaguar, Ocelot, Baird’s Tapir, Three-wattled Bellbird, Bare-necked Umbrella and Resplendent Quetzal.

Day 9

Monteverde - Rincón de la Vieja
Shuttle bus transfer from Monteverde to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Afternoon at leisure, optional activities available. Overnight at hotel in Rincon de la Vieja.

Day 10

Rincón de la Vieja
Day of leisure in Rincon de la Vieja, which was created to protect the flora and fauna surrounding the volcano. Here you will be able to relax in the thermal waters known as “Las Hornillas” and “Las Pailas,” sulphur ponds and bubbling mud, and admire examples of the Costa Rican national flower, the purple orchid.

Optional excursions also available, which include tubing, horseback riding, visit to the nearby waterfalls, volcanic mud pools and mountain biking.

Day 11

Rincón de la Vieja - Tamarindo
Shuttle bus transfer from Rincon de la Vieja to Tamarindo Beach. Overnight in Tamarindo.

Day 12

Tamarindo
Day of leisure in Tamarindo to relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches in Tamarindo.

Day 13

Tamarindo - San José
Transfer to the airport to take the flight to San José. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in San José.

Day 14

Transfer to the airport to take the flight back home.
