Peru’s northern cities are very rich in cultural history from ancient cultures even before the Incas. The city of Trujillo is amongst the most important cities in Peru. Founded in 1534, it has beautiful colonial houses with their typical balconies and patios. Nearby Trujillo are the Chan Chan Ruins, the most important center of the Chimu culture from the 12th century. This is considered to be the world’s largest clay city in the world, and has been declared to be a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO.

Chiclayo is another important city in Peru. Nearby lies the archeological site known as ‘El Brujo’, with a 30-meter adobe pyramid. We will also visit the impressive necropolis known as ‘Huaca Rajada’, housing the world-famous tomb of the ‘Lord of Sipan’, known as the richest discovery in the Americas, and which was unearthed only in 1988, and the ‘Tucume’, another archeological complex with pyramids, temples and administrative and urban centers. Chiclayo houses the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, with a rich collection of jewelry, textiles, pottery and ceramics of ancient cultures of the region.
