Tour Overview

Nature and culture lovers will adore this Yampu tour especially involving any family to venture a tour of the Amazon.  You will explore some of the most beautiful regions of Peru including the Cusco, Machu Picchu, Peruvian Amazon and serene Lake Titicaca.

While exploring the Amazon, you will first fly into Puerto Maldonado, then our van takes you to the river, where you then board a motorized canoe.  Your canoe will take you on the tributary of the Amazon to your lodge at the Reserva Amazonica.  Your home for the next few days will be this comfortable and romantic lodge in the Peruvian Amazon. If you’re lucky you will spot the river otter in Lake Sandoval, many monkeys, sloths, and Macaws.  A night safari may turn up scarier critters like Caimen, Bats, or a Tarantula.  If you have a kid with you, they will certainly be thrilled.

After exploring the jungle, you will fly to Cusco. Cusco will be an unexpected highlight of your trip.  Cusco is a beautiful town full of cobblestone streets, tiled roofs, Inca and Spanish Colonial treasures everywhere you look.  Couple that with the colorful locals that walk the streets, often with their llamas who will greet you with a smile.

Next you’re off for one of the highlights of your trip Machu Picchu.  Now restricted to 2500 people per day, be sure to book in advance.  You will have the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu twice so you can hike around the ruins for the wonderful views and to see all the hidden temples.  Once back from Machu Picchu, you will continue by flight to Lake Titicaca. Yampu travelers will also experience the peaceful energy of the Peruvian Highlands. Here, you will navigate the waters of Lake Titicaca and visit the floating islands of the Uros Indian tribes where the locals have preserved lifestyles unchanged since Inca times.

This trip can be customized to fit your individual travel dates and any specific requests you may have. Your travel consultant will prepare a customized itinerary for you. We offer a choice of 3, 4, 5-star and deluxe hotels. The Deluxe option comes with the following accommodations: the Reserva Amazonica, the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu, Monasterio in Cusco and the Park Plaza in Lima.

The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya, which is also the highest point on the route. Three-course lunch included. Restaurant and bar service is available at an additional cost. Train leaves Cusco at 8 am and arrives in Puno at 6:00 pm.

*Due to weight and space restrictions on the boat (10 kilograms / 22 pounds per person), we recommend that you bring only necessary clothing and equipment to the lodge. Extra luggage may be stored at the Reserva Amazonica office in Puerto Maldonado.

Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, was a flourishing ceremonial and agricultural site, probably the gateway to the jungle marshes of the Inca Empire. The central buildings were erected with the polished stone works of the Cusco Imperial style, though the site was probably occupied well before the Incas started their expansion. It was associated with the earth cult revolving around the coca leaf, which was a privilege of the Inca royal family and priests. Peru was fascinating, and the people very friendly

We enjoyed this trip very much, Peru was fascinating, and the people very friendly. The itinerary was well-paced, full of interesting places and historical sites. Obviously we were on the go a great deal, yet there was also time to ourselves to explore and try out some restaurants. From the big city of Lima, to colonial Cusco, the beautiful Sacred Valley, spectacular Machu Picchu, to Lake Titicaca, we certainly covered a lot of ground. Some of the highlights: The hors d’oeuvres at Museo Larco, seaside Miraflores, the central square in Cusco, the Sunday market in Chinchero, the Moray salt fields, visiting the Andean family in Misminay, beautiful Sol y Luna hotel, the funky town of Aguas Calientes, of course Machu Picchu, and for Laurel and me, the floating islands of the Uros and Taquille Island on Lake Titicaca. Overall, we were very pleased with how Yampu handled this trip. Representatives were always waiting for us when we arrived somewhere. All our tour guides were very knowledgeable and personable, making our tours very enjoyable. We were happy with our hotels, and of course Sol y Luna was just exceptional and Palacio Manco Capac was a beautiful boutique hotel with nice views of Cusco.

We had such a wonderful trip and you made that very easy for us.

We had such a wonderful trip. We covered so much territory, and you made that very easy for us. It’s wonderful when all the details — travel arrangements, tickets, etc. are all taken care of. Peru is a fascinating place, so different from where we live. I can’t say that any part of it was a highlight – we enjoyed it all. It was very stimulating to learn about the traditions in the villages and the islands to see how life is changing and how some people are trying to live as they have. We saw much natural beauty in the Amazon, Lake Titicaca and Machu Pichu. Learning about and seeing the ruins of the Quechua and Incas was fascinating. We had a lot of fun at our pisco sour lessons. The hotels were great. Each of the guides we had was knowledgeable and engaging. We would not have enjoyed nor gotten as much out of our trip without them. They were all really terrific. Thank you for putting it all together for us.

I don’t know where to start but just let me say this was the BEST TRIP we have EVER taken.

I don’t know where to start but just let me say this was the BEST TRIP we have EVER taken. You thought of everything. I must admit I know you said everything would be taken care of but I thought yea, RIGHT, no way. Boy was I wrong, gosh you didn’t miss a thing. All the tour guides, the tours, the hotels were just outstanding. The tour guides took us to airports got our tickets to board flights geeze we were treated like royals. Machu Picchu was outstanding; we did the hike. I have to say I was a little apprehensive about it at first, but once we got started realized we would have no problem. We made it all the way to the top. The hotel there was just wonderful, the weather was nice also NO RAIN!! Galapagos!!! WOW it was JUST AWESOME!!! OMG the snorkeling was incredible. We got to go twice a day and honey we sure did not miss one trip. The hikes were great, we could not believe how close you can get to all the animals. I Really don’t have the vocabulary to express to you just how amazing this whole trip was. All the tours were outstanding loved having the private tours. All the guides were very knowledgeable, and I know this is true cause Caswell knows his history. I am recommending this trip to all my friends. Again thank you so much for preparing the trip of a life time.We were married 30 years January 2 and this was our gift to each other. Thank You,
