Tour Overview

Savor the finest Chilean Cuisine: A Bite-size Tour! One of the best experiences to have while traveling is embracing the culture of the area, and what is more cultural than the local dishes that one can savor during their travels? When traversing through foreign lands it is important to not only view the sites, but to use every one of the senses to have a full experience. Smell the fresh products selected from the local market, and of course taste and savor the unique flavors that the country has to offer.

After landing in the city of Santiago, enjoy dinner at “Como Agua Para Chocolate” Restaurant located at the bohemian neighborhood of Santiago. The next day visit Santiago’s main produce and fish markets to buy fresh ingredients for a fresh and tasty home cooked meal, accompanied by a local guide. Afterwards, head away from downtown Santiago to the base of the Andes mountain to a private home in San Carlos de Apoquindo, a community overlooking the city. It is here where a simple but delicious Chilean meal using the fresh fish and produce that was selected prior will be put to use. Rather than a formal cooking class with technical instructions, this is a collaborative effort to prepare a fresh meal and discuss food and culture.

The next day make a stop in the quaint agricultural and wine making village of Isla de Maipo to visit one of the local vineyards for a wine tasting and vineyard tour. Drive along a quiet country road, passing through the fields of grapes, peaches, produce livestock – with the mountain as constant backdrop – before reaching the community of Champa to make the last purchase at a country store that gets its products straight from the nearby farms. Then it’s on to a private parcela to fire up a mud oven and cook a fresh Chilean meal!

Countryside Wines with Lunch

Start this excursion by departing from the hotel to begin the tour of Maipo Valley, one of the most emblematic areas in the central region of the country, well known for its wines. This area is where the conquistadores founded the first vineyards in colonial times after learning of the benefits of its climate and agricultural wealth have to offer. There are two main factors that make this area so special; its strategic location, only a few kilometers from Santiago and Valparaiso, and its topography, which allows cultivation of various wines that must occur at different heights.

During the last century, the Perez Cruz family started to develop the agricultural activity with a high level of dedication and professionalism. They took advantage of the capabilities and enthusiasm each member of the family had to maintain their passion for their common interests. Vina Perez Cruz produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and Cot. Take a tour around the bodega, the mezzanine floor and cellar. At the end, tasting of one Reserva and one Limited Edition wines. Return and accommodation.

Everything you arranged was perfect to the last detail

Everything you arranged was perfect to the last detail. The hotels were all nice. My favorite was probably Remota, in Puerto Natales, Chile. Their food was excellent, tour guides and drivers are all professionals. I learned a lot.

I recommend Yampu highly for S. American travel

In 2015, Yampu organized a 19-day individual itinerary tour for me to Peru (Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Lima), Chile (Santiago, Valparaiso/Casablanca, and southern Patagonia) plus a short stop in Buenos Aires. This tour included three nights at the all-inclusive Hotel de los Torres in Torres del Paine National Park, and a 4-day, 3-night cruise on the MV Stella Australis through the Tierra del Fuego archipelago from Punta Arenas to Cape Horn and on to Ushuaia. At every stop Yampu arranged airport transfers, superb guides, safe and cordial drivers, comfortable and beautiful hotels, and fascinating programs. The trip ran like clockwork, was educational and immense fun, a true mix of adventures and wondrous scenery and cultures. Yampu’s sales staff was knowledgeable and highly responsive to my requests as we constructed the tour plan, and worked well within my budget constraints to create this wonderful and most memorable travel experience. I recommend Yampu highly for S. American travel.
