This combination tour is one of Yampu’s most popular trips in Peru, and ideal for those who want to visit all of Peru’s most popular destinations in one visit. You will begin your trip spending 4 days in Cuzco and the ruins of Machu Picchu; 2 days in Lima, Peru’s capital; 2 days on the shores of mysterious Lake Titicaca; 3 days in Ica/Nazca to view the Nazca Lines; and 3 days in Arequipa and Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world and more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon.

Recently, following UNESCO recommendations, Peruvian authorities have placed restrictions on the visitation of Machu Picchu, the lost Incan ruins. Currently, no more than 2,500 people daily will be allowed to visit the ruins. While these new restrictions are great for the preservation of the ruins, they may cause some difficulties in your ability to visit them, so we recommend booking with plenty of notice.

This trip can be customized to fit your individual travel dates and any specific requests you may have. Your travel consultant will prepare a customized itinerary for you. We offer a choice of 3, 4, 5-star and deluxe hotels. The Deluxe option is with the Orient Express hotels: the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu, Monasterio in Cuzco, Casitas del Colca in Colca Canyon and the Park Plaza in Lima. The Deluxe option also includes the new Titilaka hotel near Lake Titicaca. You may also choose to upgrade to the luxury Hiram Bingham train from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, and take the Andean Explorer train from Cuzco to Puno (operates only certain days).

This tour includes airfare allowance from Miami (US), on non-holiday dates. You do not need to fly via Miami; Yampu will fly you the most direct way to your city of destination. Depending on your travel dates and proximity of travel, we will quote you the most economical surcharge from your city or country of origin.

Day 1

Overnight flight to Lima.

Day 2

Upon arrival, airport reception and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon city tour of Lima - always one of the most important cities in South America since its founding in 1535. Journey through the historic center of the city. Admire the beauty of San Martín and Major squares, the Cathedral, the Government Palace, and visit San Francisco Convent, religious building from the late 16th century, and its catacombs. Also drive through the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores.
Note: check-in is normally after 2 pm. Early check-in may be granted subject to availability (not confirmed).

Day 3

Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Arequipa. Upon arrival, airport reception and transfer to your hotel. City tour including the Catalina Convent, the Plaza de Armas or Main Square, the Cathedral, the Church of La Compania and the Colonial district of Yanahuara.

Day 4

Arequipa / Chivay
Departure time 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.. Leave Arequipa by bus, crossing the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, passing by Pampa Cańahuas, the Bojedales of Tocra (water filterings) with a stop at Patapampa, special viewpoint of the Andes situated at 4,800 meters. Lunch at Chivay. Overnight in Colca.

Day 5

Chivay / Cruz del Condor / Arequipa
Leave the hotel to explore the town of Yanque and visit its church. Continue to Cruz del Condor viewpoint to admire the majestic flight of the Andean condors. Start the return to Arequipa visiting the Andean villages of Yanque, Achoma, Maca and its church, Pinchollo with stops in Antahuilque—a place known by its mysterious lagoons, where you can observe the andenes or cultivation terraces, continue to Choquetico to admire the high burials and rock maquettes. Lunch on the way. Continue to Arequipa ending at your hotel.

Day 6

Morning transfer to the airport to take the flight to Cuzco. Upon arrival in Cuzco, airport reception and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon city tour of Cuzco, visit the Korikancha Temple or Temple of the Sun and the Cathedral and its Art Museum. After your visits, you will continue to the nearby water shrine of Tambomachay (the Inca Fountains), Puca Pucara (the Red Fortress), the amphitheater of Kenko and finally the Sacsahuaman Fortress. After the tour, return to your hotel. Note: Because of the altitude in Cuzco, we recommend that this tour be done privately at your own pace, at an additional cost of $28 per person, based on two people.

Day 7

Morning transfer to the train station. Train takes us through the Sacred Valley of the Incas up to the town of Aguas Calientes. From here, we will board a bus to the mountain citadel of Machu Picchu. We will then have a guided tour of the ruins. Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, was a flourishing ceremonial and agricultural site, probably the gateway to the jungle marshes of the Inca empire. The central buildings were erected with the polished stone works of the Cuzco Imperial style, though the site was probably occupied well before the Incas started their expansion. It was associated with the earth cult revolving around the coca leaf, which was a privilege of the Inca royal family and priests. You will have time to enjoy a light lunch or snack and return to your hotel at your leisure. In the evening, we will enjoy a wonderful dinner at the hotel or in the village of Aguas Calientes.

Note: Government regulations limit the number of visitors to Machu Picchu daily. Entrance is subject to availability. Please book with plenty of notice so we may confirm your entrance to the ruins. Machu Picchu entrance tickets are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Day 8

Day at leisure. You may choose to return to Machu Picchu, hike Huayna Picchu or relax in the village of Aguas Calientes and its hot springs. In the afternoon, we will board the train to return to Cuzco. Upon arrival, train station reception and transfer to your hotel.

Note: Entrance tickets to Machu Picchu on this day are not included. Please contact your Yampu travel consultant if you think you would like to go back to the ruins or hike the Huayna Picchu at time of booking (subject to availability).

Day 9

This morning you will be transferred to the Cuzco airport for your flight to Lake Titicaca. Upon arrival, airport reception and and transfer to your hotel. En route to the hotel, visit the necropolis of Sillustani (12,000 feet above sea level), the lagoon of Umayo and the fabulous “chullpas,” cylinder-shaped tombs.
Note: You may also take the Andean Explorer train from Cuzco to Puno (10 hour scenic ride), although it operates only on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Additional cost of $ 125 per person applies.

Day 10

Full day Tour of Lake Titicaca Morning transfer to the port to take a boat ride over beautiful Lake Titicaca. We will first visit the famous floating islands of Uros, home of the Uros Tribe, a civilization dating before the Incas. The islands are composed entirely of reed, including the houses and boats. As we wander these fascinating islands, we will have several opportunities to interact with the friendly locals with an opportunity to purchase their handicrafts, ride in their boats, and see into their daily lives.

After the visit, we will continue our scenic ride on the lake to the island of Taquile. This island is known for its pre-Inca and Inca ruins, as well as its Inca terraces. The people of Taquile are popular for their high quality textiles, arguably the best in Peru. The knitting on the island of Taquile is reserved exclusively for the males, while the women make the yarn and weave. After our visit to Taquile, we will return to Puno and transfer to our hotel. Lunch (included) is served on the lake.

Day 11

Transfer to the airport to take the flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, airport reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 12

Early morning transfer to the bus station, where you will take the bus to Nazca. Afternoon, visit to the Cemetery Inca of Chauchilla, in the valley of the Trancas, with subterranean tombs containing mummies in a fetal position facing east. Overnight in Nazca.

Day 13

Nazca-Ica-Paracas
Morning flight over the Nazca Lines. Transfer to Ica. Upon arrival, tour of Ica, the old and new districts, visiting the Regional Museum of Ica, the Lagoon of Huacachina and a winery where we will be able to observe the process of Pisco-making—the typical Peruvian drink and ingredient of the famous Pisco Sour. This tour of Ica can be replaced by sandboarding; see below. After the tour, transfer to your hotel in Paracas.

Day 14

Paracas-Lima
Transfer to Paracas for a cruise to the Ballesta Isles, where you will see sea lions, penguins, and more than 60 species of sea birds. You will also see the “Candelabra,” another ancient sand design. Return to Lima by bus. Lunch included at the hotel.

Day 15

Transfer to the airport to take the flight back home, or overlap with the add-on of your choice.

Sandboarding in Ica:
Our tour starts at the Oasis La Huacachina. From this point, we will drive toward the west, where the most beautiful dune formations are found. We will drive across Ica’s desert in a 4×4 buggy vehicle and will make many stops along the way for pictures. The desert of Ica is the most beautiful in our country and offers stunning landscapes, not only of sand dunes but also of the Huacachina lagoon, from above. There will be many points where you will have the opportunity to experience the exhilaration of one of most popular sports in Ica: sandboarding. Our driver will take us to the summit of some dunes, and from the very top you will be able to slide down the dune. Before you start to sand surf, our guide/instructor will teach you specific techniques to ensure a safe ride. There are actually plenty of spots to sandboard around Huacachina Oasis, with a wide variety of dunes suitable for the beginners, as well as for professional sandboarders. Keep in mind that on this tour you will not have to walk up the dunes to go for a second or a third ride; our driver will do all the lifting for you. The whole tour will take about 2 hours, so at the end clients are dropped off at the Huacachina Oasis.

Andean Explorer Train from Cuzco to Puno (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday only):
Fantastic train ride that takes a gentle climb to higher and cooler altitudes. The first half of the journey is dominated by the magnificent Andean mountains which tower over the deep valleys of the meandering Huatanay River. It then reaches the gentler, rolling Andean Plains, where vicuńa and alpaca can be seen. The glass-walled observation car provides the perfect opportunity to view the beautiful scenery. The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya, which is also the highest point on the route. Three-course lunch included. Restaurant and bar service is available at an additional cost. Train leaves Cuzco at 8 am and arrives at Puno at 6:00 pm.
