Tour Overview
Our 14 day Tanzania safari and Zanzibar tour pairs a classic big-game safari with a relaxing Zanzibar beach stay. First, you explore Tanzania’s best-known parks: Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Then you end your trip on Zanzibar’s white sand beaches. In addition, the whole trip is private, with your own guide and vehicle on safari.
Tarangire National Park: Elephants and Baobabs
You arrive in Dar es Salaam and spend your first night there. The next morning, you fly to Arusha and start your safari in Tarangire National Park. Tarangire covers about 2,850 square kilometres. It is famous for large elephant herds and giant baobab trees. Its wetlands also draw wildlife all year round. Besides the animals, you can get a glimpse of traditional Maasai life.
The Ngorongoro Crater: Africa’s Wildlife Caldera
After two nights in Tarangire, you move on to the Ngorongoro Crater for two nights. This huge volcanic caldera formed millions of years ago, when a giant volcano collapsed in on itself. Today, wildlife fills the crater floor. In fact, it’s one of the best places in Tanzania to spot the rare black rhino. Meanwhile, the surrounding highlands offer some of the most striking views in East Africa.
The Serengeti: Great Migration and the Big Five
Next, you spend four nights in the Serengeti, Tanzania’s most famous national park. Its endless grass plains and scattered acacia trees form the classic picture of wild Africa. The Serengeti also hosts the annual wildebeest migration, when more than a million animals cross the plains. Moreover, all of the Big Five live here.
Zanzibar: White Sand Beaches and Spice Tours
Finally, you fly to Zanzibar for your last three nights. The island blends African and Arabic cultures, with powder-white beaches, turquoise water and warm weather. For example, you can snorkel, scuba dive or sail on a traditional dhow. Alternatively, you can simply relax on the sand. Your trip also includes a guided spice tour. There, you can see, smell and taste the cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg that made Zanzibar famous. Afterwards, you can buy them straight from the farm.
Why Combine a Tanzania Safari with Zanzibar’s Beaches?
After eight days of early-morning game drives, Zanzibar is just a short flight away. That’s why it’s the most natural way to end a Tanzania safari. Instead of dusty savannah tracks, you get turquoise water, Stone Town’s narrow streets and slow days by the Indian Ocean. Like every Yampu trip, this two-week Tanzania safari and Zanzibar beach holiday is fully private. As a result, we can tailor it to your travel dates, budget and choice of hotels. Options range from comfortable 3- and 4-star lodges to luxury tented camps.

There is ample opportunity to purchase packaged spices, essential oils and trinkets at the local stall. Places You'll See
-
Arusha
Well known for its night life and club scene, Arusha is a city of excitement. Visit the National Natural History Museum with exhibits on early man and local animal life and plants. Take in the history of Arusha with a visit to the local museum and the Uhuru monument for the Declaration of Arusha. Along with some history lessons, enjoy a mixture of local cuisine combined with other world gastronomies.
-
Tarangire National Park
Witness the dry red lands of Tarangire National Park as a herd of elephants scratch for underground streams and migratory zebras quench their thirsts from the shrinking lagoons under the hot African Sun. During the rainy season, witness hundreds of animals flocking to the increasing bodies of waters and animals lounging in the magical sausage trees.
-
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a crater caused by a collapsed volcano, is now home to a wide variety of wildlife and vegetation. With one of the densest populations of lions in the world, there’s a good chance of spotting one, along with zebra, buffalo, and even black rhinos. Also home to Olduvai Gorge, considered the seat of humanity.
-
Serengeti National Park
Famous for its annual migration of nearly two million zebra and wildebeest, the Tanzanian national park of the Serengeti hosts many walks of wildlife including the “big five”; The Masi Lion, African Leopard, African Bush Elephant, Eastern Black Rhinoceros, and the African Buffalo. Declared a world heritage site, this national park provides a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the local wildlife.
-
Zanzibar
A fascinating place to visit, Zanzibar is still a mixture of all the historical and cultural influences that have passed through the island over the past 500 years. It may have developed in recent years to welcome tourists onto its powder white beaches but in some ways as you take in the narrow streets of Stone Town or watch the traditional dhow boats heading off to find their daily catch you could be forgiven for thinking that time has stood still.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before your 14-Day Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar Beach Tour
How long is the Tanzania safari and Zanzibar beach tour?
It's a 14-day private tour. You get 8 nights on safari (2 in Tarangire, 2 at the Ngorongoro Crater and 4 in the Serengeti), then 3 nights on Zanzibar's beaches. The rest of the trip covers your arrival in Dar es Salaam and your international flights.
Which national parks does this safari visit?
Tarangire National Park, known for large elephant herds and baobab trees. The Ngorongoro Crater, a huge volcanic caldera full of wildlife. And the Serengeti, Tanzania's largest and best-known park and home of the annual wildebeest migration.
Is this a group tour or a private tour?
It's fully private. Your guide, vehicle and itinerary are yours alone. Yampu can change the dates, the pace, the hotels and the activities to suit you.
Can I see the Big Five on this trip?
Yes, you have a strong chance. The Serengeti has all of the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino and buffalo. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the best places in Tanzania to spot the rare black rhino. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, though.
When is the best time to do a Tanzania safari with Zanzibar?
The tour runs year-round, departing Sunday and returning Sunday. The long dry season, roughly June to October, is the classic time for game viewing, and it's also good beach weather on Zanzibar. If you want to see the wildebeest migration, the timing affects which part of the Serengeti you stay in. Ask your consultant to match the camps to your travel month.
What kind of accommodation will I stay in?
You can choose between 3-star, 4-star, 5-star and luxury options. These range from lodges like Tarangire Sopa and Serengeti Serena to luxury tented camps like Oliver's Camp and Swala Camp. On Zanzibar, you'd stay at beach resorts such as Bluebay or Essque Zalu. With the 5-star option, you fly between the safari parks instead of driving.

The trip you set up for me was flawless.
The trip you set up for me was flawless. The guide met all my expectations. He was helpful and protective. I did learn that in Africa, time is a relative thing. I soon learned that when James told me we were one half hour from anywhere, I could count on an hour. I saw every major animal, but one, including the Black Rino, one of the most endangers specie in the Crater. I took 900 pictures. I can tell you without a doubt, that your people can take care of a person my age and should promote that fact. I loved Nxabega. However, I was prevented from going to my tent for a rest when a family of Elephants started eating the trees between the lunch area and my tent. They were all first rate camps, but Sopa was exceptional. If you wish me to fill out anything, let me know. One funny story. I needed to go to the bathroom. James asked me to wait while he drove about a half a mile to high ground, so he could watch out for animals while I attended to the problem behind his 4×4. As we get to about fifty yards from the place we planned to stop; three lions walked over the hill and past our vehicle. You would be surprised how fast the urge to go disappears under these circumstances.
