Santiago

Upon arrival to Santiago, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

This afternoon, enjoy a private city tour of Santiago. The tour starts from the Funicular de Santiago (Gondola), which provides a stunning and panoramic view over the city from the top of San Cristobal Hill. Then travel to the heart of the city and Plaza de Armas the spot from where the city has grown throughout the centuries. Each Latin city has a plaza de Armas as when cities were founded the center was also where the armory and military base was established - hence the name Plaza de Armas (Plaza of Arms). Visit some of the more important buildings such as the Cathedral, the City Council, the Central Post Office and the National Historical Museum.

Continue to the Presidential Palace "La Moneda"; the current seat of the government. Wander the streets that were once elegant at the beginning of the 19th century and now are a commercial center. Also visit some the original colonial neighborhoods such as Concha y Toro Square. Characterized by its cobbled streets and old mansions that reflect the elegance and richness of the early twentieth century the neighborhood grew to prominence between 1870 and 1876 with the influx of wealth as a result of mining and the discovery of Silver. Many Chileans achieved great wealth, including Enrique Concha y Toro founder of the famed winery. Return to the hotel for the evening.

The Wines of Aconcagua Valley

Start the tour from your hotel headed north from Santiago to get to the famous and extensive Carretera Internacional San Martin (San Martin International Road), which starts in Santiago and ends in the city of Mendoza, Argentina. Begin this tour in Vina Sanchez de Loria. This vineyard comprises 30 hectares of centennial facilities of large adobe brick walls, a park and a central courtyard. On one side, one can see a beautiful and dark cellar with huge barrels of 35,000 and 25,000 liters, made of American oak and rauli, with hundreds of years of history. Now tour its facilities, the engine room, wine cellars, the halls of the Casa Patronal, also visit its beautiful vineyards and grape arbors. Finally, taste their reserved and special wines including: Cabernet Sauvignon-Oidor Gran Reserva, Oidor y Oporto y Sauvignon Blanc (Late Harvest y Tadea). The tasting will be accompanied by cheese and nuts.

Continue your tour to reach Vina San Esteban, its vineyards are beautifully located along the Rio Aconcagua and at the foot of the Andes, where sunny days and night breezes create the temperature change required to reach the optimum maturity of the grapes. Its Fundo Paidahuen, which is pioneer in hillside grape plantations, offers a rocky soil and an unique sun exposure required to obtain grapes rich in structure and character. The total planted area is 120 hectares and includes the following varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Syrah, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. The tour will be with a guided excursion to the top of Parque Arqueologico Paidahuen (Paidahuen Archaeological Park), to discover the most hidden place. Finish in the Vina San Esteban with a wine tasting, ending with a delicious lunch on the vineyard.

Next reach the Vina Errazuriz. This vineyard was founded in 1870 by Maximiano Errazuriz and from its beginnings it is dedicated to producing wines of top quality, elegance and complexity, making it the best vineyard in Chile. Its wines are internationally recognized. The tour will start with the history of Vina Errazuriz and its importance in the development of wine industry both nationally and internationally. Visit the underground cellars and tour the vineyards, where one can see issues of viticulture. Finish the tour with a tasting of 4 Max Reserva wines at the Wine Bar.

Return to hotel.

We really enjoyed all the hotels and the tours you recommended!

Thanks for checking in. We had an excellent time in Chile and Argentina. Everything worked out perfectly. It was very comforting to have someone meet us in each city and facilitate our tours, while allowing us plenty of time on our own. All of the transfers and pick-ups were perfectly on time and were with very kind and helpful guides and drivers. Our only problem was in Chicago on our way home when our flight was cancelled, but there was really nothing anyone could do at that point. Otherwise everything was great! We really enjoyed all the hotels and the tours you recommended and look forward to working with you again in the future. Thanks again!
