Victoria Peak, Repulse Bay, Aberdeen Fishing village

Today, reception at the hotel for private visit to Victoria Peak, Repulse Bay, Aberdeen Fishing village

Victoria Peak gives Hong Kong perhaps the most extraordinary & legendary vista of any modern city in the world. An upper-class residential area in colonial times, The Peak is still Hong Kong’s poshest area, with rent for a one-bedroom apartment starting around HK$50,000 a month. One glimpse of the awe-inspiring view & the price may seem reasonable. Whether by day or night, Victoria Peak is a must-see.

Continue on to Repulse Bay. Primarily a well-to-do residential area, Repulse Bay has a relaxed, resort-like atmosphere. The wide beach is popular with residents & great for sandy strolls. The Lift Guard Club built in traditional Chinese style, features statues of Kwun Yum & Tin Hau, both protectors of fishermen. Colonial-style, The Repulse Bay, resembling the original luxury hotel that occupied the site, houses shops & restaurants for perusal.

Afterwards stop by the Aberdeen Fishing Village. Aberdeen Harbour is home to hundreds of people living on fishing junks, juxtaposed against a modern high-rise community. Take a sampan ride to get a close-up look at this unusual way of life. For one’s own waterborne experience, board one of the two floating restaurants – including Jumbo, the world’s largest – for a seafood meal. At night, the brightly-lit restaurants are a magnificent sight. ...read less

Optional Half Day Tour (not included): Guided Visit of Wong Tai Sin Temple, Jade Market, Bird & Flower Market
At the impressive Wong Tai Sin Temple, all three main religions of China – Buddhism, Taoism & Confucianism – are practiced. The temple is dedicated to Wong Tai Sin, a shepherd who earned immortality through his good deeds. The temple is a shining example of traditional Chinese architecture, with red pillars, a golden ceiling & ornate latticework. The “office” consists of many sooth-sayers & the temple may well house the largest concentration of fortune-tellers in Asia.

A short walk south from the temple is the Jade Market (located on the junction of Kansu & Battery streets), where hawkers sell various shades & qualities of the stone. To Chinese, jade has great spiritual value for warding off evil. When carved into certain shapes, it can represent wealth (deer), good fortune (tiger) & power (dragon). Don’t buy expensive jade unless you are with an expert. With about 70 bird stalls showcasing a variety of melodious songbirds, the nearby Bird Market garden, with its courtyards & moon gates, is a delight. Songbirds remain a favorite pet of some local men.
