Chichen Itza

In the morning, make way to the Mayan pyramids of Chichen-Itza. The site is divided into three sections. The north grouping of structures is distinctly Toltec in style. The central group appears to be from the early period. The southern group is known as "The Old Chichen." Here is where one will find a large ball court where Mayan men played the sacred game called pok ta pok. Continue to Merida for the night.

Uxmal and Kabah

Enjoy today's incredible excursion to the archaeological sites of Uxmal and Kabah. Uxmal was built around 700 A.D. The rich, green, fertile land provides a perfect setting for some of the most magnificent ancient pyramids, buildings and temples of the ancient Mayan world. One can sense the history here while walking around and gazing at the stunning architecture and majestic layout of this ancient city. The Piramide del Adivino (the Oracle's Pyramid) stands majestically above other buildings, and a climb to its summit is quite rewarding with spectacular views of the entire half-square-mile ancient city. Kabah is located south of Uxmal connecting both archaeological sites by a grand 18-kilometer-long pedestrian causeway with monumental arches at each end. Kabah is the second largest ruin of the Puuc region, after Uxmal. The most famous structure at Kabah ruins is the Palacio de las Mascaras (the Palace of the Masks), its facade decorated with hundreds of stone masks of the long-nosed rain god Chaac. The site also has a number of other palaces, low stone buildings, and step-pyramid temples one will be able to discover and enjoy. Overnight in Merida. ...read less

Full day tour of Coba & Tulum

Mounted on the edge of a cliff, the abandoned city of Tulum towers above the deep turquoise of the Caribbean and a beautiful white sandy beach. Although the site dates back to earlier times, Tulum reached its peak in the Post-classic period between 1,000 and 1,600 AD. Originally called Zama or City of the Dawn, the sun rises from the sea above the city walls and for the ancient Maya, begins her dance across the sky. The city within the walls was only inhabited by the nobles, high priests and esteemed citizens such as astronomers whereas the lower classes lived in simple wood and thatch huts beyond. The buildings in the city were originally covered with brilliant paintings and carvings – stark white, deep red or vibrant blue, but only faint remnants of these now remain.

Afternoon visit to the archaeological site of Coba – which is Mayan for “Water Stirred by the Winds” – is next to a group of shallow lakes. The archaeological remains were found date back to 600 AD. During this visit to these ruins, notice how pleasurably peaceful it is due to its isolation of the roads and nearby towns, and also due to less affluence of visitors. One can also find a vast and abundant wildlife around Coba.

Great beaches and fantastic nightlife

We had a wonderful time, thank you! We loved Mexico City and the City tour. Teotihuacan, Uxmal, & Kabah were amazing. By the time we went to Chichen Itza we were a little tired of archaeological sites! But, I was glad to see them. Cancun was very touristy. We did go down to Playa Del Carmen and had a wonderful time there. I would recommend anyone to visit Playa Del Carmen. Great beaches and fantastic nightlife! All in all we had a very pleasant time. We both agreed we would go back to Playa Del Carmen since it’s only 2 hours from Miami. Thank you for all your help!

The ancient Mayan sites is fantastic

We had a wonderful trip in Mexico. The ancient Mayan sites is fantastic. The travel guide is very good. The hotels were good except Cancun. I don’t care for this hotel facility, but it is not too bad let our kids have this kind of hotel experience.

We enjoyed our trip tremendously

The itinerary was well focused to cover most aspects of this fascinating country and to fulfill our purpose for this trip: history, archaeology, folklore, culture, anthropology and nature. One small note, we would had skipped the stop in Cerocahui and spend the extra day in that lovely little town of El Fuerte, inspite of the unbearable temperature. HOTELS: Hostal de La Noria gave us a junior suite but without a window! They claimed they could not give us a different room because there were no vacancies. We were disappointed because our reservation was made well in advance and were under the impression we had been assigned a last minute’s worst room. Their promise to change room in a couple of days never materialized. At the Okaan Chichen-Itza where we were to spend two full afternoons doing nothing, I was forced to upgrade to a junior suite to be close to the restaurant and to be able to sit on two armchairs instead of on our beds all the time. The lack of a phone in the room and the distance to the reception made the nights unpleasant: you wondered how to cope if something had happened during the night. There were also pleasant surprises: Hotel Mirador gave us a suite. S&S Hip Hotel Tulum upgraded us to a superior ocean view room free of charge. When we were evacuated due to Hurricane Ernesto their staff assisted us in order to send a car to take us to Cancun in the evening. Our heartfelt thanks for sending a car immediately, allowing us to sleep in Cancun and not in a shelter where the police were taking us and flying the following morning to Chihuahua without disrupting our vacation. We enjoyed our trip tremendously and say: mille grazie
