Tour Overview

Your luxury trip starts at the Miraflores Park Hotel in Lima with a full city tour of Peru’s capital. Here, you will feast on exquisite seafood at a classic cevicheria in Miraflores overlooking the ocean. Enjoy some of the best restaurants in the world. Have cocktails in the garden of the largest pre-colombian collection of artifacts in the world. Enjoy modern art in Barranco or take your pick of Peruvian activities including horseback riding, hiking, painting lessons, or Pisco sour classes!

Fly to Arequipa, the white city surrounded by volcanoes.  Then you will adventure across the high Andes to the Colca Canyon, where you can see Andean Condors soaring above one of the world’s deepest canyons.  Stay at the deluxe Las Casitas del Colca in Colca Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world- a true marvel.  Then fly off to Cusco.  Pamper yourself at one of the several luxury hotels in the city, perhaps the Monasterio Hotel in Cusco.  Indulge in a delicious brunch on the Belmond Hiram Bingham, a luxury train that will carry you on a breathtaking ride to Mahu Picchu.

Recently, following UNESCO recommendations, Peruvian authorities have placed restrictions on the visitation of Machu Picchu, the lost Incan ruins. Currently, no more than 2,500 people daily will be allowed to visit the Machu Picchu ruins. These new restrictions are great for the preservation of the ruins. We recommend booking with plenty of notice.  We can also get special permission for you to hike the mountains around Machu Picchu while you are there.  Let us know if you would like this opportunity.

Arequipa – Colca Canyon

This morning, you will be picked up from your hotel by private car to begin your journey of approximately 3 hours from Arequipa to Chivay, in the Colca Canyon. As we leave Arequipa, we cross the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, passing by Pampa Canahuas before making a stop at Patapampa. Patapampa, the highest point of the trip to Chivay, offering a special viewpoint of the Andes situated at 4,800 meters (16,109 feet) above sea level.

As you get out of the vehicle, you will find yourself a bit short of breath, not only from the altitude, but from the beauty of the unusual landscape. For years and years, travelers have been placing "apachetas", or small stone towers (commonly called rock cairns in English), showing the way along the highest part of the route and as homage to the Apus or Andean mountains. After taking in the majestic views of the cordillera and the mountains, we will return to the vehicle and continue on to the town of Chivay. After lunch, we will transfer to the hotel for the rest of the day free to relax and explore on your own. ...read less

Arequipa- Cusco

This morning, be met at the hotel in Arequipa and transferred to the airport for a flight to Cusco.

Upon arrival to Cusco, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

This afternoon is at your leisure to acclimate. Cusco's elevation is approximately 3,400 meters (11,200 feet), so we highly recommend resting as soon as you arrive for a few hours and taking in some coca tea.

Cusco is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ruins of the old Inca city became the foundation for the Spanish architecture you see today, and many of the stone walls that line the streets were built by the Incas.

If you are feeling up to it later, Cusco is a great walking city with sidewalk cafes, street art and local shops to explore! We highly recommend the chocolate factory and shop.

The Casa Concha museum was recently renovated and houses over 360 archaeological pieces from Machu Picchu, recently returned by Yale University. This market visit is a great opportunity to interact with the locals either selling or purchasing items from the market.

This afternoon there will be time for lunch (lunch not included) before continuing to the nearby water shrine of Tambomachay (the Inca Fountains), Puca Pucara (the Red Fortress), the amphitheater of Kenko and finally the Sacsayhuaman Fortress. Cusco- Machu Picchu

At the appropriate time, you will be met at your hotel and transferred to the train station for a ride to Machu Picchu aboard the Hiram Bingham Train.

The luxurious Hiram Bingham train takes you on a spectacular journey through the stunning landscapes of the region on the way up to Machu Picchu. As you board, the tables are exquisitely set with gleaming crystal and polished cutlery. Each carriage is elegantly decorated in 1920's fashion, complete with polished wood and brass along with comfortable seating. You will enjoy aperitifs and brunch as we pass through the Sacred Valley and its lush fields with colorful villages in the foothills of the Andes. From there, the journey is highlighted by beautiful vistas of the mountains and the Urubamba River.

Upon arrival in the town of Aguas Calientes we will have a private guided tour of the ruins. Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, was a flourishing ceremonial and agricultural site. The central buildings were erected with the polished stone works of the Cusco Imperial style, though the site was probably occupied well before the Incas started their expansion. It was associated with the earth cult, revolving around the Coca leaf, which was a privilege of the Inca Royal family and priests.

Typical English afternoon tea will be served at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. Return to your hotel for an overnight in Machu Picchu or Aguas Calientes.

Note: Hiram Bingham only operates certain days of the week. Please ask your Yampu Tour Consultant when we customize the itinerary.

What an experience!!!

I thought it only fair to let you know that all the planning you did for our time in Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu worked beautifully. I would give full marks to the staff. Everywhere we went we were treated like the very best of guests. The guides were excellent, the transfers went smoothly and the hotel was lovely. Thank you so much. The highlight of our trip was truly enhanced by Yampu Travel. We had one guide for just the two of us everywhere we went and my husband was able to hear and understand much better than in a group situation. What an experience!!!
