Tour Overview

On this combined tour of Botswana and Cape Town you will begin by exploring the maze of channels and wildlife in the Okavango Delta with daily game drives, canoe tours and boat cruises. Then, continue your wildlife safari to the Moremi Game Reserve filled with flora and fauna before flying south to Cape Town. Here you will explore the natural and cultural history of the city, the Cape Peninsula and the surrounding vineyards.

The 16,000 square kilometers of wetlands that is the Okavango Delta is the final destination of Africa’s third longest river. It is here that you can stalk herds of elephants, hippos, or buffalo along the shoreline as you drift silently through the reeds upon your guided mokoro (indigenous canoe). A motorboat cruises, nature walks, and game drives are also available, where, each morning, you can track Africa’s most famed animals during their hunt for prey. In this colorful setting thriving within the reaches of the Kalahari Desert, you will experience a part of Africa like no other.

The Moremi Game reserve encompasses the eastern expanses of the Okavango Delta, and therefore provides a stark contrast within its boundaries of dry land that divides and separates its many vast wetlands. The only protected region of the Delta, Moremi is home to some of the most dense wildlife populations in the country, but most notably known for the abundance of large predators, in which you will have the chance to track from water and land based game drives.

Following Victoria Falls, you will fly to Cape Town. Your days here will be spent exploring the culture and history of the city and its surroundings. You will also engage in a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula, which involves stunning views, long golden beaches, the jackass penguin colony, and the Cape of Good Hope – Africa’s most southwestern point. Your final day will be spent in the winelands, north of Cape Town, touring the many vineyards and wineries that are making South African wines some of the most popular in the world.

I highly recommend Yampu as a company and Karolina in particular as an agent.

Karolina Guilcapi at Yampu Tours has provided excellent service for me and my brother on two separate trips, one to Mexico last August and, more recently, South Africa (and Botswana and Zimbabwe) last month. In particular on the South Africa trip she worked closely with me to combine and fine tune a number of their tours. I appreciated her recommendation to go to several game reserves and parks, rather than a lot of time at one. And my brother had some last minute complicated logistics (scheduling an all-day teleconference in the middle of our trip and rescheduling his flights when he missed his original flights) for which Karolina was instrumental in coordinating. I highly recommend Yampu as a company and Karolina in particular as an agent.

The trip you set up for me was flawless.

The trip you set up for me was flawless. The guide met all my expectations. He was helpful and protective. I did learn that in Africa, time is a relative thing. I soon learned that when James told me we were one half hour from anywhere, I could count on an hour. I saw every major animal, but one, including the Black Rino, one of the most endangers specie in the Crater. I took 900 pictures. I can tell you without a doubt, that your people can take care of a person my age and should promote that fact. I loved Nxabega. However, I was prevented from going to my tent for a rest when a family of Elephants started eating the trees between the lunch area and my tent. They were all first rate camps, but Sopa was exceptional. If you wish me to fill out anything, let me know. One funny story. I needed to go to the bathroom. James asked me to wait while he drove about a half a mile to high ground, so he could watch out for animals while I attended to the problem behind his 4×4. As we get to about fifty yards from the place we planned to stop; three lions walked over the hill and past our vehicle. You would be surprised how fast the urge to go disappears under these circumstances.

Everything was perfect! Guides were wonderful!

Everything was perfect! Guides were wonderful! I especially loved the Chitwa Chitwa. The experiences here were fabulous, including eating dinner with a family of elephants, including a baby. From our room and the lodge we saw a herd of Hippos, crocodiles in the morning and two lions. On the drive we saw an Impala in a tree which had been killed by a lion. Then shortly thereafter we saw a leopard leap up into the tree to eat the impala. We also went to an art opening, and liked a painting so much that we decided to buy it and take it home. It was her first painting to sell and she was so happy she gave it to me. I hope in some way my trip to South Africa, may have changed this student’s life, who will now have more confidence as an artist.
