Tour Overview

On this combined fly-in tour experience Namibia and Botswana, each offering starkly different landscapes and experiences. In Namibia, go on safari in Etosha National Park, visit the coastal town of Swakopmund and climb the great sand dunes of Sossusvlei in the country’s unforgiving, yet beautiful, desert environment. Then, for a change of scenery, go on safari through Botswana’s lush and vibrant Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve. This trip will give you a sense of Africa that few know exists!

The trip begins in Etosha, Namibia’s oldest national park and most diverse wildlife habitat in the country, which is also Africa’s largest salt pan. This habitat supports 114 mammal, 340 bird, and 110 reptile species. Here you will embark on many game drives along the edge of the salt pan and its many waterholes. Then, enjoy some time back in civilization at the Bavarian styled coastal town of Swakopmond on the Skeleton Coast. While away from the window shopping, restaurants and bars of the town, you will spend your time exploring the nearby harbors and beaches. Your final destination, in Namibia, will bring you to the Mountain Homestead, which is situated in a private reserve and will give you wonderful access to the spectacular dunes of Sossusvlei in the Namib Naukluft National Park.

You will then fly to Windhoek, for your connecting flight to Maun, and finally to the Okavango Delta. It is here that you can stalk herds of elephants, hippos, or buffalos along the shoreline as you drift silently through the reeds upon your guided mokoro (indigenous canoe). A motorboat cruises, nature walks, and game drives are also available, where, each morning, you can track Africa’s most famed animals during their hunt for prey. In this colorful setting thriving within the reaches of the Kalahari Desert, you will experience a part of Africa like no other.

From your camp in the Delta, you will then transfer to the Moremi Game Reserve, which encompasses the eastern expanses of the Okavango Delta, and therefore provides a stark contrast within its boundaries of dry land that divides and separates its many vast wetlands. The only protected region of the Delta, Moremi is home to some of the most dense wildlife populations in the country, but most notably known for the abundance of large predators, in which you will have the chance to track from water and land based game drives.

Arrival at the Mushara Lodge

Upon arrival, airport reception and transfer to Mushara Lodge. This light aircraft transfer is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. Depending on arrival time, take the opportunity to join a game drive into the park in the afternoon. The luxury camp is situated on the border of Etosha and beyond the park gates are the richest concentrations of protected wildlife in Namibia, including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, rhino, giraffe, hartebeest, kudu and oryx.
If relaxation is preferred, the camp has a lovely pool, a game viewing hide and excellent hospitality. The hide at camp overlooks a small waterhole, which attracts various species including the majestic kudu, zebra, oryx, dik dik and steenbok. It is also a good spot for learning about Namibian birds, especially active at the waterhole towards dusk. The evening sees camp lit with lanterns and a roaring fire before inventive Namibian cuisine.

Exploring Etosha

The park gates open at 6 a.m. for those that are keen enough for an early start. The open Land Rovers are ideal platforms for watching wildlife and in Etosha time can be divided between the waterholes which are always busy with thirsty animals and the open areas around the great pan itself. If planning to spend the day inside the park, either take a picnic hamper or stop at the small restaurant inside Fort Namutoni, a former German colonial outpost, which has become a tourist attraction. Get some exercise, visit the small book store and enjoy lunch in the courtyard of the fort. After lunch, take the trails around the eastern edge of the pan and look for species that frequent the open plains and pan fringe. The gates to Etosha close at sunset; the transfer back to camp will depart before then. ...read less

Traditional Bavarian architecture set against a backdrop of desert dunes makes this small town unique. Originally built as a staging post for the people and goods arriving during the German colonial era, this town is now a well-established tourist center. Abundant window shopping is found side by side with plentiful restaurants and bars, as well as a small aquarium and museum, which covers the town’s history. Take the chance to explore the beachfront promenade which bustles with walkers, fisherman and swimmers, as well as informal open air craft markets near the lighthouse. ...read less

et again I find myself compelled to thank Yampu for organising another amazing holiday for me

Yet again I find myself compelled to thank Yampu for organising another amazing holiday for me! As a solo female traveller venturing to Africa for the first time I wanted a company I could trust to look after me. That is why I chose Yampu. Having had a great experience with them in Central America it seemed sensible to see if they could help me again. I gave them my brief: Scenery, animals, horse riding suitable for an experienced rider and the chance to visit a wild animal charity . As I had hoped, they delivered on each and every count & gave me the BEST guide I could have ever wished for! From airport taxi pick up to drop off I was looked after impeccably. The accommodation was perfect and the brief about animals could not have been better fulfilled .My guide was an inspiration to be around & her ability to find wild animals was verging on mystic! Her in depth knowledge and obvious passion for all things Namibian was the lynch pin of my holiday and I can’t recommend her highly enough. Yampu are genuinely able to fulfill the customised brief you give them as opposed to cobbling together existing packages….They keep in touch throughout the process and I like the way they link in with local operators & guides as opposed to trying to take complete control. I have two regrets …1.I had to leave Namibia. 2. Yampu doesn’t quite cover the whole world (yet)!

We couldn’t recommend you or any of the services you provided for us more highly.

Every hotel /lodging you set up for us was superb and a place we would gladly rebook or advise any of our friends to book. Every driver was courteous and an excellent and safe driver—most notable in this was our Namibia guide who took us through some scary mountain roads and when questioned about his superb safe driving told us that he had actually taught for the army in difficult terrain driving!

Every guide was knowledgeable, courteous and unfailingly helpful including inventiveness about how to structure each tour so that I could participate to the maximum despite my disabilities. Every arrangement was reliable and was on time or early. The times we had to check on or change anything were reachable immediately through the phone numbers you gave us.

We couldn’t recommend you or any of the services you provided for us more highly. This was much appreciated because I was traveling with a significant handicap due to Parkinsons disease and didn’t want to be a burden or limit the opportunities of my able bodied sister.

The trip you set up for me was flawless.

The trip you set up for me was flawless. The guide met all my expectations. He was helpful and protective. I did learn that in Africa, time is a relative thing. I soon learned that when James told me we were one half hour from anywhere, I could count on an hour. I saw every major animal, but one, including the Black Rino, one of the most endangers specie in the Crater. I took 900 pictures. I can tell you without a doubt, that your people can take care of a person my age and should promote that fact. I loved Nxabega. However, I was prevented from going to my tent for a rest when a family of Elephants started eating the trees between the lunch area and my tent. They were all first rate camps, but Sopa was exceptional. If you wish me to fill out anything, let me know. One funny story. I needed to go to the bathroom. James asked me to wait while he drove about a half a mile to high ground, so he could watch out for animals while I attended to the problem behind his 4×4. As we get to about fifty yards from the place we planned to stop; three lions walked over the hill and past our vehicle. You would be surprised how fast the urge to go disappears under these circumstances.
