Tour Overview

Easter Island, whose global name came from a Dutch explorer in 1722, still holds visitors in thrall. Rapa Nui, as the natives called it, literally meaning “Navel of the World”, is one of the most remote and populated islands in the world. Long ago, its inhabitants began building the monolithic statues known as Moai; today anthropologists are still not sure why or what the statues are meant to signify. On this tour you will visit the site where many of the statues were made and where stones were quarried: the Rano Raraku Volcano. Gaze upon the seven Moais of Roihi, the iconic symbol of the archaeological site’s epicenter. In Orongo, see ancient petroglyphs depicting the legend of ‘Bird Man.’

This destination is both exotic and mysterious, but enjoys the culturally rich and more urban environment of Santiago as well. Enjoy the incredible views and bustle of this fascinating and modern city. Don’t miss a visit to the nearby Casablanca Valley, well-known for its crisp white wine varietals, and the attractive cities of Valparaiso and Vina del Mar.

Private City Tour of Santiago

Upon arrival to Santiago, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

This afternoon, enjoy a private city tour of Santiago. The tour starts from the Funicular de Santiago (Gondola), which provides a stunning and panoramic view over the city from the top of San Cristobal Hill. Then travel to the heart of the city and Plaza de Armas the spot from where the city has grown throughout the centuries. Each Latin city has a plaza de Armas as when cities were founded the center was also where the armory and military base was established - hence the name Plaza de Armas (Plaza of Arms). Visit some of the more important buildings such as the Cathedral, the City Council, the Central Post Office and the National Historical Museum. Continue to the Presidential Palace "La Moneda"; the current seat of the government.

Wander the streets that were once elegant at the beginning of the 19th century and now are a commercial center. Also visit some the original colonial neighborhoods such as Concha y Toro Square. Characterized by its cobbled streets and old mansions that reflect the elegance and richness of the early twentieth century the neighborhood grew to prominence between 1870 and 1876 with the influx of wealth as a result of mining and the discovery of Silver. Many Chileans achieved great wealth, including Enrique Concha y Toro founder of the famed winery. Return to the hotel for the evening.

Private Casablanca Valley with Valparaiso

This morning, depart from your hotel in Santiago around 11:00am, driving along the picturesque Chilean countryside towards one of Chile's most important wine areas, the Casablanca Valley, producing some of South America's finest white wines.

First you will visit Casas del Bosque, located 70 km from Santiago and only 30 km from Valparaiso, with 235 hectares vineyard dedicated exclusively to the production of cold climate varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Syrah. In 2013, in London, this vineyard was chosen in the International Wines & Spirits Competition as Chilean Wine Producer of the Year. Take a full tour of the premises before lunch (included) at the Tanino's restaurant, supervised by Chef Alvaro Larraguibel and enologist Alvaro Larraguibel, who have worked jointly to achieve the perfect pairing between gastronomy and wines.

After lunch, proceed 30km southeast by a beautiful tree-lined highway up to Valparaiso, the principal port of Chile, declared Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, and built on hills on the coast of a hectic bay. The true attraction of Valparaiso are the hills that divide the city in two levels with its characteristic and colorful buildings hanging from the hills and cliffs in an impressive layout of streets, side streets and alleys. The use of elevators to join the two levels of the city is a tradition to enjoy full panoramic views of the port. After your visit, continue on towards Vina del Mar, overlooking the blue restless Pacific.

Vina del Mar is also known as the "Garden City", due to its beautiful parks, original suburban architectural style, busy beaches and coastal avenues dotted with modern buildings, premium hotels, casino and gourmet restaurants. This panoramic tour includes the Plaza Vergara main square, Libertad bridge, over the Marga creek, Libertad avenue, shaded by huge maple trees, Fonck Archaeological museum, with an interesting collection of Easter Island objects, continuing by a coastal road past Las Salinas towards up market Renaca and Concon beaches. Returning to Vina, view on the Municipal gambling casino, Peru Avenue promenade, famed Quinta Vergara and upscale Sporting Club, before returning to Santiago.

Akivi: Puna Pau and Seven Moais

Ahu Akivi is the archaeological centre of the Roihi sector and was the first site to be properly restored in the 1960's. It is a ceremonial site which is particularly interesting not only because of its location (in the centre of the island) but also because of the legends which surround the Seven Moai which are situated on the platform or Ahu. The tour also visits Puna Pau, to the east of the town of Hanga Roa which is situated in a small crater of red stone. This is where the "pukao" or hats (topknots) which crowned the moai were made. On the way it is possible to see the path where they were transported, including some examples of the pukao which have fallen by the wayside.

Later in the day, enjoy an Umu Show with dinner. This unique event gives one an opportunity to savor the most typical Rapa Nui and Polynesian food, prepared in an earth-oven, locally called "Umu" or "curanto". Dinner consists of chicken, meat or fish cooked in the Umus, and a glass of beer, juice or soft drink. After dinner, enjoy a typical Polynesian show with dance performed by a local folk-group with body-paint. Round trip transfers included. Operates only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday

We really enjoyed all the hotels and the tours you recommended!

Thanks for checking in. We had an excellent time in Chile and Argentina. Everything worked out perfectly. It was very comforting to have someone meet us in each city and facilitate our tours, while allowing us plenty of time on our own. All of the transfers and pick-ups were perfectly on time and were with very kind and helpful guides and drivers. Our only problem was in Chicago on our way home when our flight was cancelled, but there was really nothing anyone could do at that point. Otherwise everything was great! We really enjoyed all the hotels and the tours you recommended and look forward to working with you again in the future. Thanks again!
