Tour Itinerary

Day
1

Arrival in Paris - Giverny - Rouen

Upon arrival at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, embark on a panoramic tour of Paris OR proceed directly to Giverny.

Upon arrival in Giverny:

The renowned impressionist painter Claude Monet resided and worked here from 1883 until his passing in 1926. His former residence, along with its meticulously landscaped gardens where he famously created his Water Lilies series, now serves as the Claude Monet Foundation museum.

Experience an entrance and guided tour of the Monet Foundation, encompassing both the house and gardens. Established in 1980, the Claude Monet Foundation preserves Monet's legacy. The house, featuring its distinctive pink crushed brick façade, was the dwelling of the Impressionist School leader from 1883 to 1926.

Visitors can admire a precious collection of Japanese etchings, while the gardens have been meticulously replanted to their original splendor. The expansive Nymphéas studio has also been meticulously restored.

A highlight not to be missed is the Water Garden with its iconic Japanese Bridge (please note: guided commentary is not permitted inside the house).

Following the tour, proceed to Rouen. Check-in at your hotel for an overnight stay in Rouen. ...read less

Rouen – Etretat

Today, embark on a guided tour with your guide of the historical center of Rouen and its fascinating heritage, a "must-see": the Gothic cathedral, churches, mansions, and restored half-timbered houses, as well as well-maintained public gardens. It is also referred to as "the city of 100 bell towers," echoing the words of Victor Hugo.

After the tour, enjoy your lunch at any of the local restaurants in the area.

In the early afternoon, depart for Étretat, which in the 19th century became the holiday resort par excellence. Famous writers fell in love with this magical, picturesque setting. Immortalized by painters Courbet and Monet, Étretat has retained its small-town charm.

Enjoy some free time in the village and ascend to the cliff-top viewpoint.

OPTIONAL: Admission and free visit to the Jardins d'Etretat, located atop one of the chalk cliffs of the famous Côte d'Albâtre, offering unforgettable walks with a poetic blend of landscape art and land-art sculptures: a magical spot on the Falaise d'Amont in Étretat, with an exceptional view of the famous Aiguille.

Return to Rouen or check into a hotel near Le Havre/Honfleur for your overnight stay. ...read less

Honfleur - Pays d’Auge

Departure read more...

Departure by coach towards Honfleur.

From the Viking invasions until the Impressionist painters, without forgetting the seafarers of the 16th and 17th centuries, the history of Honfleur is rich and the town remained authentic. Wander with your guide in the narrow cobbled streets between half-timbered houses and get to the very picturesque Old Dock. The very special atmosphere of this place attracted painters: Courbet, Eugene Boudin, Jongkind or their “pupil”, Claude Monet and his Impressionist friends. Honfleur is still today a city of artists, with a lot of galleries.

Departure to the close region of Pays d’Auge, towards the very characteristic village of Beuvronen-Auge, which was a former stronghold of the Harcourt family and lies in the heart of Pays d’Auge country on the Cider Route. It is just like a picture postcard with its half-timbered houses, its market and country houses scattered around the countryside.

Stop in a family-run calvados distillery situated within a fine group of half-timbered 17th century buildings in the heart of the Pays d'Auge.

The place is located in the heart of a picture postcard setting in Normandy: apple trees, manor house and half-timbered outbuildings... Over your guided tour, you will discover the cider press, the pot still, the aging cellars and the manor. Production of cider, pommeau and calvados, including a unique collection of vintage bottles. Taste the products after the guided tour.

The panorama over the bay is revealed, reminding us that the site becomes once again, at the rhythm of the highest tides in Europe, an island surrounded by the sea.

At the top of the mountain, the abbey is a masterpiece of architecture, one of the greatest centers of medieval pilgrimage, and a challenge to the assaults of man, time, and the elements. Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant during the tour. In the afternoon, drive to the beautiful shore city of Saint Malo.

The best guides, the best experiences, and the best service in every country

My wife and I have used Yampu 4 or 5 times now to plan our travel for us. They have access to the best guides, the best experiences, and the best service in every country we’ve used them to visit – from Portugal to Cambodia and from Peru to Iceland. This most recent trip to Iceland was perfect. Two days in Reykjavik, where we did a walking tour of the city, a food tour, the Fly Over Iceland experience, and some shopping and relaxing. Then 2 nights at the Retreat Spa – which is a very special experience in itself that is hard to describe – and then two nights in the countryside where our private guide took us to all of the main attractions on the Golden Circle and South Coast. Private guides mean no waiting, front row parking and VIP access everywhere, and wonderful knowledgeable guides without a lot of time herding on and off of buses and going places that may not interest you. It is a bit more expensive, although not as much as you might think, often less than a high end group tour — without the group. Yampu has planned each trip just for us, exactly what we want to do, and not anything we don’t – and it has always worked out great – highly recommend.
