Lodge Overview

The Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve (adjoining Kruger National Park) features four separate safari lodges encompassing the philosophy of “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”. Representing “Tomorrow”, Earth Lodge reflects a new era of luxury and environmental consciousness. The Sabi Sands Game Reserve is a 65,000 hectare (160,618 acre) wildlife sanctuary and enjoys one of the most bio-diverse wildlife populations in Africa. It has only ever been a wilderness area and is home to a vast wildlife population including The Big Five and a number of endangered species as well. Flanking the Kruger National Park, animals pass unhindered between the reserves.

Designed to be harmonious with nature, Earth Lodge is sculpted into a slope, becoming almost indistinguishable from the surrounding landscape. Each of 13 ultra-luxurious suites includes individually designed furniture, a private plunge pool, en-suite glass fronted bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers and butler services. The lodge provides indoor/outdoor dining area overlooking a waterfall, a boma (outdoor dining area), library, art gallery, meditation garden, wine cellar and spa. Earth Lodge is all inclusive of meals, drinks and morning and evening game drives (either in private open air Land Rovers or on foot) with an accompanying Game Ranger and Shangaan Tracker.

Notes:

* Big Five animals (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) may be viewed all year round.

* Upon arrival, visitors to South Africa are required to have, at minimum, two blank pages in their passport for arrival stamps by the South African Immigration Services. A visa is only required for stays longer than 90 days (U.S., Canadian and U.K. citizens).

* South Africa requires that parents traveling with a child must have an unabridged birth certificate for the child in their possession. If both parents aren’t traveling together, a consent form from the absent parent must be in their possession as well. If you are planning on traveling with children, please consult your Yampu Travel Consultant for full requirements.

* Travelers entering South Africa from WHO-designated yellow fever countries are required to present their current and valid “International Certificate of Vaccination as approved by the World Health Organization (WHO)” (commonly called a “yellow card”) or statement of medical exemption (also located on the same yellow card). Additionally, South Africa treats Zambia and Tanzania as yellow fever countries. This requirement is imposed on travelers flying to South Africa via yellow fever countries, even when transiting passengers are required to stay on board the plane, or if the plane makes an unscheduled landing in a yellow fever country. As a precaution, all travelers to South Africa should carry their original yellow card.

* While most of South Africa is malaria-free, malaria risk exists throughout the year in rural low-altitude areas of Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces, including Kruger National Park and neighboring game reserves. Risk also exists in the coastal lowlands of KwaZulu-Natal north of the Tugela River (including in Zululand, but excluding urban areas of Richards Bay). In all risk areas, risk is much lower from June to September.
