Tour Overview

After a journey through the sparkling high rises and enticing street vendors of Kuala Lumpur, travel up the river into the dense jungles of Taman Negara National Park. Here, in the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, look for rare and exotic animals including the Malayan tiger and the Asiatic elephant. After a quick flight into Bali for a few days, set off to Lombok and the relaxing beaches and active nightlife of Gili Trawangan.

Kuala Lumpur, or just “KL” to the locals, is not only the capital of Malaysia, but it is a standing testament to the country’s determination and prosperity. From its not so glorious days as a humble shanty town, KL has evolved into an ultra modern 21st century metropolis with South-East Asia’s tallest skyscrapers. Perhaps most intriguing about the city is its astounding cultural diversity thanks to the Ethnic Malays, Chinese businessmen, Indian immigrants and British colonists that built this city from the jungle floors.

Taman Negara in Malaysia is considered as one of the oldest rainforests in the entire world, at an estimated 130 million years, and is Malaysia’s greatest national park. Covering an area that is twice the size the country of Luxembourg, its rich jungles cover a swath that encompasses over 2500 square miles and extends across three states. Within its impenetrable depths is an ecosystem comprised of ancient trees, massive root systems, exotic orchids and lush ferns that are buzzing with a world of animals. However, due to the extremely dense vegetation, many of these animals remain virtually unseen.

On the island of Bali, take a short journey to Prua Kehen, a temple constructed in the 13th century. The temple is especially unique with its stone elephants, as elephants were not native to Indonesia. The inner compound is guarded by a ‘Naga,’ or dragon, which is said to have a mystical stone embedded in it.

A morning boat ride from Bali transports you to the island of Gili Trawangan where you’ll enjoy a full day at your leisure. Though the white sand beaches and bathtub warm waters may hold your attention for much longer than expected, there are numerous well-respected dive shops in the area that are ready to assist you in exploring the gorgeous Gili Reef.

Visit to a Balinese Home & Pura Kehen

This morning, a warm welcome awaits at a Balinese home, where a traditional breakfast will be served with Balinese coffee or tea. Walk through the local farms to experience the real life of Balinese farmers working in the rice fields. Learn more about the simple and traditional irrigation system called Subak, and the process of rice growing, from planting the seedlings, to harvesting, and even cooking the rice.

The next stop is Pura Kehen, which was constructed in the 13th century. Stepping through the "Kori Agung" (stone capped gateway), there are elephant sculptures, which is unusual for a building of that age, as elephants are not a native species of Bali. Once inside the temple, there is a small compound which is guarded by a mythical "Naga" (dragon) that has a magic stone inside it. Apparently, the stone glowed red hot once the site of the temple had been decided. Following this fascinating local insight, continue to Kintamani to enjoy lunch overlooking Mount Batur, an active volcano, and picturesque Lake Batur. Return to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Sasak Village Experience

Today, embark on a Traditional Sasak Tour. Visit the interesting town of Banyumulek, where many small pottery businesses make traditional clay pots for everyday use. The next stop is Sukarara, where traditional Songket cloth is hand woven using simple "backstrap" looms. These stunning fabrics also have gold and silver thread running through them, and are woven strand by strand in intricate patterns and designs.

One of the most interesting stops on the tour is at Rambitan, a traditional Sasak village where the houses (Bale Balaq) and rice storage barns (Alang-Alang) are still made from wood, bamboo thatching, and cow dung. The most stunning beaches on Lombok are located at Tanjung Aan and around the Kuta area. Unlike the Kuta of Bali, this beach features white sand, clear turquoise water and great surf. Our SE Asia trip was awesome.

Our SE Asia trip was awesome. It would take too long to go into even the highlights of the trip, because there were so many. Your people on the ground in Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong were terrific but the Kuala Lampur guy not so much. Best/highest kudos go to Sylvie in Bangkok who we feel went the extra mile to not only host us and show us around, but to take care of us like a mum on tours and events and even on our days of leisure. Our guy in Singapore and Christina in Hong Kong were merely excellent. The hotels were wonderful but we would stay at the Marina Bay Hotel in Singapore next time. What an awesome place that is. We have over 700 photos and a hundred stories about our experiences in these exotic lands.Thank you so much and your people and your colleagues for making this such a memorable trip for us.
