Garni & Geghard Tour

After breakfast, you will depart to Garni for a tour. This Pagan Temple was built in the 1st century AD and is the only temple that has been preserved from the Pagan times in Armenia. It was devoted to the god Mihr, the god of cleanness. In 1679 it was destroyed by an earthquake and was restored in the 1970s.

We will then continue our trip to Geghard Monastery. Its name came from the legendary lance that was used to pierce the body of Christ. It has been kept here for centuries.

Though the exact foundation of the monastery is unknown, the present complex was built in the mid - 13th century. Afterwards we will visit a local house for lunch where you will have the chance to see and participate in the preparation of Armenian national bread: lavash. It is very thin and usually sold in very large forms. It is usually cooked in a ground oven called a "tonir". Recently it has been recognized as non-material heritage of UNESCO. These two monasteries are very close to each other and can be easily seen from one to the other. Both are located on an uneven plateau, separated by a deep crack formed by a small river that flows into the river Debed. Haghpat Monastery was one of the largest religious, cultural and educational centers of medieval Armenia. We will also visit the monastery of Akhtala, which has fantastic scenery. Places You'll See

  • Yerevan

The capital of Armenia, Yereva, is believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, emerging as a city around 782 BC. Though this is when the city is thought to be founded, archaeological findings point out that early settlements existed as early as the 4th Millenium BC. Today, Armenia’s capital is home to 1-million people. Visitors are welcomed to stroll the lively streets adorned with Soviet-era architecture, chic shops, and tasty restaurants. Take in the city’s history with visits to the iconic Cascade stairway, the Opera House, and other points of interest.

  • Goris

Known as one of the most beautiful cities in Armenia, Goris is the second-largest city in the Syunik Province characterized by the regional architecture and its long tree-lined avenues. The city dates as far back as the Urartian period, earning its name from the Indo-European pre-language words “gor” (rock), “es” (to be) thanks to the surrounding rock pyramids, and caves. Visitors can also explore its iconic monasteries and castles including the must-see Tatev Monastery.

  • Tbilisi

Georgia’s ancient and vibrant capital city, Tbilisi spreads out on both banks of the Mtkvari River, surrounded by mountains. Well known for its hot springs and bathhouses, Tbilisi derives from the Old Georgian word “tbili”, meaning warm. Legend has it that Tbilisi was founded by a king who was hunting in the heavily wooded region with a falcon. The king’s falcon injured a pheasant during the hunt and both birds fell into a nearby hot spring, dying from burns. The king was so impressed with the hot springs that he cut down the forest to build a city, Tbilisi.

  • Gudauri

Known as the best ski resort in Georgia, Gudauri provides well-developed infrastructure, intense altitude, and unlimited possibilities for freeride skiing. The resort is the highest settlement on the Georgian Military Road. The season in Gudauri begins in early December and lasts through April. Visitors can choose to ski Mount Sadzel, the highest point of the resort or Kudebi where skiers can ride from any side of the mountain. Experienced skiers and adventure seekers can also enjoy heliskiing and even paraskiing.
