Tour Overview

While winters in Iceland bring long, frigid evenings lit up by the dazzling northern lights, Icelandic summers give us warm evenings with long days of sunshine and endless activities around the island. A Summer Journey Through Iceland Tour takes travelers to the must-see summer sites of Iceland that are less accessible in winter while taking advantage of the long days, warmer weather, and colorfully lush landscape.

Starting in the capital city of Reykjavik, visitors will see Iceland from a unique vantage point through state-of-the-art virtual technology at the FlyOver Iceland Experience. After the exhilarating 4D experience, the tour takes travelers to the downtown Reykjavik Harbor to depart on a fun whale watching tour.

After admiring the whales, dolphins, and seabirds of Iceland, the tour continues to Snaefellsnes Peninsula to take in views of The 700,000-year-old glacier-capped volcano, Snaefellsjokull. Afterward, travelers will continue on the most famous sightseeing route in Iceland, the Golden Circle, to visit the beautiful national park of Thingvellir, the geothermal area of Geysir and the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall.

On the final days of the journey, the tour will take travelers through the south coast to witness the vast black lava beaches, majestic waterfalls, rugged rock formations, and puffins in their natural habitat. The tour ends with a visit to the Reykjanes peninsula to see the region’s hot springs, tectonic rifts, volcanic craters, and moon-like landscapes before soaking in the mineral-rich geothermal spa of Blue Lagoon.

Note:

This tour operates best during Iceland’s winter months from November to March when consistent cold weather can ensure the best glacier cave experience.

Sea birds in the area include puffins, gannets, guillemots, arctic terns and many more. The whale watching season begins in April and continues through August. Although trips are organized in wintertime, sightings of whales and seabirds are much rarer during that time.

Private Snaefellsnes Peninsula Tour

This diverse area is home to numerous stunning sights and is a popular destination for those wanting to experience something different with fewer tourists around. Serving as the entrance to a fantastical subterranean world in Jules Verne's classic 1864 novel 'Journey to the Center of the Earth,' Snaefellsjokull has inspired a wealth of writers, poets and artists. The 700,000-year-old glacier-capped volcano is also considered to be one of the world's ancient power sites and plays a prominent role in a late 14th century saga in which Bardur, a half-human-half-troll, becomes the 'guardian spirit of Snaefellsjokull.' The peninsula also boasts Iceland's most photogenic mountain, Kirkjufell, a distinctly shaped mountain situated beside a beautiful lake which, on calm and clear days, reflects a perfect mirror image of the mountain above. This is a fantastic area for any visitor to Iceland to explore and our private guides will gladly show you all that this peninsula has to offer. ...read less

Private Full Day Borgarfjordur Tour and Group Half Day Into The Glacier Tour

In the Borgarfjordur tour, we explore and discover the beautiful west and its sagas. We travel to Borgarfjordur to see the magical Hraunfossar waterfall pouring through the lava field into the Hvita river, and the cascades of Barnafoss. The tour continues to the romantic and historical Reykholt, the home of Iceland's great saga writer, Snorri Sturluson. We will then return via Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful geothermal spring. On the way to Husafell, if time allows, we'll sightsee around the beautiful Hvalfjordur, the Whale Fjord.

Next will be a half day group tour Into The Glacier. Whilst there are a few man-made ice tunnels and ice caves in various places around the world, there is nothing quite like the ice caves in Iceland. Never before has anyone been able to see the beautiful blue ice at the heart of an ice cap glacier; it is not quite a Jules Verne journey to the center of the earth, or even to the absolute center of the glacier, but it feels like an exciting and magical journey, deep within the glacier to another world, a world of magnificently stunning blue ice.

Going sub glacial is an experience not to be missed; it is a completely different to natural ice caves found on the edges of glaciers. We feel that it is something that many people will want to do, at least once in a lifetime. How can anyone truly experience Iceland, unless they really explore the "Ice Land"?

Private South Coast Tour

The south coast of Iceland is a magical area filled with adventure opportunities. Vast black lava beaches as far as the eye can see, majestic waterfalls, rugged rock formations and enchanting glacier tongues, all within an arm's reach. With the Atlantic Ocean to the south and a huge ice cap to the north, as well as two mighty glacier rivers to the east and west, the scenery is simply breathtaking and is one of Iceland's best road trips.

Your private tour means that the day will be fully tailored to your interests, and no two south coast tours are exactly alike. However, there are certain signature attractions you can expect to see. Perhaps the most well-known is Reynisfjara beach, widely considered to be the most beautiful examples of Iceland's black sand beaches. As you walk along the jet-black sand, you will immediately spot the Reynisdrangar rocky sea stacks which, according to legend, are trolls turned to solid stone at sunrise as they tried to drag ships from the ocean to the shore. You will also visit the charming coastal village of Vik i Myrdal, whose picturesque church enjoys glorious ocean views.

Nearby is Dyrholaey; a 120m (400 ft)-high natural rock arch also serves as a bird sanctuary, and every summer, thousands of visitors and birdwatchers alike flock here to observe puffins in their natural habitat. You can also expect to see some of Iceland's most impressive waterfalls, including Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, where you'll find a winding staircase leading to the top of the falls, offering a birds' eye view of this natural marvel.

A ++ experience!

We used Yampu last Christmas (2017) for a 2 week trip in Argentina. From the very first email to the follow up after our trip, everything was perfect with Yampu. The hotel selection was matching our needs, the transfers between locations and airports all went very smoothly, the overall trip plan was a good balance of sightseeing, discovery and personal time. The guides were all so friendly and knowledgeable. This was a A+ experience. Our main point of contact in the USA was Christine Cronin. She did an amazing job for us. We like their services so much that we are now planning another trip with Yampu.

Everything went very smoothly on our private tour

Everything went very smoothly on our private tour, many thanks. We were able to see many different regions and aspects of Mexico making it a simply fascinating experience. We had a great time in Mexico City and Taxko (sadly Puebla was flooded and had to be taken out of the itinerary), and were able to take in the Aztek culture and Spanish colonial architecture. Then in the north, Copper Canyon (bigger than the Grand Canyon in the US) and the amazing train journey. The trip at the end to Baja California we managed to see the grey whales and the Yucatan and beautiful Maya ruins. The exposure to these very different areas in a short time made this a truly memorable journey.
