Mr. Jose Nogueira, sailor by profession and originally Portuguese, was the first archetype of the Patagonian pioneer. He gathered a great fortune during the second half of the XIX century. In 1890, he ordered the construction of a splendid mansion in the middle of the center of the city, which, with the passing of time, transformed into one of the symbols of the city. In 1982 it was declared national monument y by extent its characteristics cannot be modified. In 1992 it was authorized as a small and exclusive hotel, which had even the honor of holding as a guest the king Juan Carlos fromSpainin 2004. In January of 2007, the princess Ann fromEnglandwas also distinguished guest in the hotel.
