Codes for Calling Internationally
As soon as we learned to dial, we have been memorizing phone numbers; Home phone, the number to call “sick” out of school, and every friend whose number we scribbled down at lunch. As you get older, the numbers you know just slightly change; family members cellphones, the number to call “sick” out of work, and that girl’s number who you scribbled down on a napkin at the bar. We’re so used to those 7 digit, or 10 digit numbers that get us in touch with our favored contacts across the nation. So what are these extra numbers? Now you’re traveling for pleasure or business, and need to contact home from abroad. You know the number you need to call, but how do you connect from outside of the country? Well we’re here to help!
Every country has a specific code for internationally calling. In order to call out of the nation, you need to add the appropriate codes to your recipient’s phone number. The CALLING CODE is the code of the country that you are calling. The EXIT CODE is that of the nation you are calling from. When making an international call, just fill in the following blanks!
(EXIT CODE-country you’re calling from) + (CALLING CODE – country you are calling) + (recipient’s phone #)
FOR EXAMPLE:
United Kingdom calling the United States….
(44)+(00)+(123-456-7890)
Now just figure out where you are, figure out where you’re calling, and call away!
